Morning Folks,

I’ve lived in the countryside all my life and I’ve never seen anything like this before. Just looking out over the rear garden and spotted this hanging from the power lines that supply my house.

I’m fairly certain it’s an owl of some sort? I get a few in the fields to the rear of my house. It looks like it just suddenly died and its talons are locked on.

It looks large enough to reach both wires with wings outstretched. I'm no electrical engineer, but could it have been electrocuted, maybe due to an electrical fault, resulting in a big differential between the two wires?

I’ve just been talking to a neighbour. His wife and another neighbour were awoken by a huge cacophony of birds shrieking in the early hours. I was too, however I thought I was dreaming and disregarded it as such.

It would appear it’s been attacked by a flock of whatever and croaked on its perch! It’s still there now. I do wonder for how long? A quick google search throws up the strength of an Owls talons. Perhaps once locked, they stay locked.

Power lines take a steady toll of birds, whether flying into them or shorting them out.
