So Ken ups the congestion charge to get people out of their cars and onto public trasport, then puts the price of public transport up, is this guy  or just greedy

Yes, I was talking to mate last night who still lives in London, actually we were out for a beer, he was telling me about it, plus the congestion charge, plus the London assembley levy, etc etc.

As much as I dislike the newt that's not quite the full picture. It's true that the cost of cash tickets will increase by around 50% but, and it's a big but, the cost of fares paid for with an Oyster card will reduce. The idea being that it will reduce cash handling, ticket lobby congestion and travelling time.

I bet all the visitors for the Olympics are going to understand that…not. They have two different prices for the same trip, try explaining that to a foreigner

It will also therefore in effect act as a tax on toursits and those visiting London on business.

It is also offering an incentive for those who do not mind all their movements being monitored

You may well have put your finger on it. Typical new Labour, they use prices and taxes to herd you into the pen like sheep while you think you have freedom of choice.

Err, this article is from September 2004, the prices have been like this for ages now.

I was wondering why the article said prices were going up to what I have been paying for the past 6 months

Thats correct, however its OK for those that only use the tube as they can get an Oyster card easily. As I commute in by train from Cambs I am now unfairly penalised by this increase as currently no train companies use Oyster, therefore meaning I have to shell out the full brunt of the rise - despite the fact that I don't use any cash, or the ticket lobby etc. but am still being penalised for it.
God I hate that bloke!!!

This was on TV last night and they had that idiot David Begg being interviewed. He said that the fares going up would be welcomed by Londoners as it would allow improvements to the services.

The only problem with that logic is that most Londoners will have Oyster cards and therefore be paying less.

The man isn't on this planet.

Nothing new there if you pay by CC or have a season ticket.

So buses are going up to £1.20... exactly the cost they've been for about a year?

Methinks the date in the artical gives this away...

I don't travel on the main line, so I could be wrong about this, but I assume a main line season ticket allows you to travel from a London terminus to a certain tube station.

If so don't you just have to flash your ticket at the manned gate?
