Hi All

As above, the two of us are off there but no idea where to go.

Aim is to fly in, go to a nice 4 star+ hotel and have a good range of local restaurants/bars around us, maybe by the sea or a lake and not too hilly (last one was like trekking up a mountain!). if there's stuff to do and see more the better.

Any suggestions gratefully welcomed!!!

Bardolino, Lake Garda. Gorgeous, flat, plenty of bars and restaurants but chilled feel.

Hotel Ceasius Spa is our go to hotel - brilliant.

We love the area, been three years in a row!

Day trips to Vienna, Venice all doable.

Fab.

Me and the wife are of off to Salerno Costa Amalfi next week for a week. Current forecast is 29-30 degrees and sunny .plenty to do and see. Throw in a Ryanair and cheap car hire and it’s working out at £1150 before spends.

I'm in Italy for a week right now

We flew into Rome, did two days there then spending the other five in a villa near Montepulciano, driving out each day to see different stuff

Normally only come to Italy in ski season so it's a different experience for us in the summer!

Quite late in the year for Garda / northern Italy IMHO. The weather has started to deteriorate and you will have rain, probably, for some of the time. I am in a rainy Treviso as I write.

I would be looking south of Naples. Even as far south as Sicily.

Yes, that's what I saw too. Look like European weather has switched to an autumn setting. Walked into town last night here with a coat on. Can't remember the last time I did that frown

Sicily has cooled down from the days of 40C+ that we had earlier in the year. We currently have mid 30’s most days with no rain expected for the next week.

She is right - there are lakes for a good reason (and from personal experience)

Surprised by the weather comments. The weather around Lake Garda is great right now. It’s also much more pleasant than the 37c we had a couple of weeks ago. You always get the odd shower & storm there, even in the height of summer but they are a flash in the pan & over very quickly.

It’s a truly amazing area (I’d stay in Malcesine or Lazise over Bardolino though wink ).

I love Malcesine. The fist Italian place I visited many years ago; Hotel San Marco. But if you've only got a week, the weather late season can be a lottery.

I too prefer it to Bardolino.
