What am I missing with these crazy frankenwatches?

I've saved images of this to my hard drive so will update if the auction expires and anyone cares.
But they basically have a water damaged Milgauss dial attached to an ancient manual ladies movement from a 1960's cocktail watch and hands which don't cross the dial placed in a cheap aftermarket Oyster...ish case and bracelet. And it's sitting at £1700 with 50 bids & 100% feedback? Is this money laundering or are there brain damaged collectors out there with thousands for this kind of thing?
I could understand if it were perhaps a special rare or interesting movement placed in a bespoke case to preserve/display it or some kind of "re-imagined" watch like when Kari Voutalinen did the Calibre 135 Observatoire. But this is like a parts-o-caster of leftover junk going for the price of a new watch.

Be careful with that judgmental tone...the fake enthusiasts who lurk in the forum will be onto you.
Next thing you know, someone will post they've bought it to try for size, could afford a genuine piece really but couldn't be arsed to be rinsed by an AD, and the fake is indistinguishable from genuine anyway....and it is never about their image.

I posted about VSF and CF Rolex watches on the other thread. This is neither in my opinion, and just a little bit strange. Why anyone would want to spend nearly £2k on a mis-match of random Rolex parts is beyond me. Not my cup of tea , at any price
But , the description is just about honest
( It could be a lot clearer for someone new to watches, but that would probably put them off, and they should do some homework before bidding this sort of money anyway)
No one is being misled , if someone really thinks it's worth that much, then that is up to them.
I see " money laundering" has been mentioned, but none of the usual exaggeration like " organised crime" has been mentioned, which normally comes up when talking about this sort of watch

Looking at it and the painfully accurate description I can only assume it's the person who twenty years ago was buying limited edition Battle of Britain Commemorative Plates from the back of the TV mags but has now discovered Ebay

True it’s an honest description although I still would like to see a genuine Milgauss with this exact dial. But , the description is just about honest

Just had a check and you're right. It has the baton colours from a white dial but it's black. It's a combo that never existed. It's either fake or a dial from a GV that for some reason has had eight of its batons replaced.Crudeoink said:
I quite like the Seiko frankenwatches, custom milsubs etc. I have a couple as holiday watches as theyre only a few hundred quid so wont be too fussed if they go missing
You can have a genuine Seiko for that money. Not sure what you mean but "custom" milsub. A euphamism for fake?Gassing Station | Watches | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
