Body off refurb
Discussion
Finally happening this November!
Last full service was 2020, taken off the road a few months after that and not driven since…. I’ll take pics once the body is off and post them here….
She’s been on MS2 since a full engine rebuild in 2011 and I’m wondering if there are other perhaps more user friendly modern aftermarket ecu’s available today
Cheers
Richard

Nothing wrong with Megasquirt it's as good as any others.
No need to play with it that much if you get it mapped by someone who knows what they are doing either Dale @ Bailey Performance or Shaun @ MS2 Tuning.
What are your issues with it?
No issues, just curious about other possible options.... Shaun installed and mapped it back in 2011 and IIRC mapped it again after some exhaust mods around 2013....No need to play with it that much if you get it mapped by someone who knows what they are doing either Dale @ Bailey Performance or Shaun @ MS2 Tuning.

Pleased you've decided not to sell .... Have you thought about Powers Electronic Ignition and new MBE ECU ? ...I keep thinking about it but never seem to have a spare £5k these days
Hi Keith it’s a weakness of mine I love buying cars but I’m useless when it comes to letting them go…. I’ll look into the powers and mbe option thank you for that…

MS2 was recommended to me a couple of weeks ago for our cars, absolutely no need to change it, the engine itself certainly hasn’t t advanced since you installed it!
Possibly get it mapped again, but possibly a waste of beer tokens if there are other things you’re considering.
As I understand it, the MS2 is a solid base.

Agreed, won’t be changing it I was simply curious about what else might be out there… last dyno she was just over 360bhp and 350 torque things, plenty for the country roads where I live Possibly get it mapped again, but possibly a waste of beer tokens if there are other things you’re considering.

I want to get rid of the clockwork bits ... AFM , DIZZY , STEPPER MOTOR etc . I also suspect the newer MBE ECU with a 256 x 256 map will give smoother interpolation of fueling.
On the Chimaera presumably Keith?

Hasn't Alun ... Classic Chim gone that way ??

Yes ... it would be same as the Tuscan then
and I could use the same s/w and lead

Best thing I ever did, that and restoring the chassis.

Years ago now, 2015.
I did around 25k on the MBE and Dom re built engine combo.
Refined gloriousness.
Never missed a beat and went like s

She’s gone off to a new life in the states.

Hope he does not mind me chipping in but I believe he sold his car earlier in the year. I wanted to buy it but sadly missed out as my car took too long to sell before i could get to it.
Probably the best 450 out there.
Not at all.Probably the best 450 out there.
Working at many race circuits constantly recently including over 500 miles round Brands Indy circuit in two days in intense heat means I don’t get to clock in and see things on hear as often and yes you missed out on a good old girl.
A nice offer and off she went to a new life in the States.
She had more trick bits than most I can tell you.
One of the most glorious of TVR ownership moments was to spend a day yanking out a slightly knackered diff through drag racing the car ( against my better nature ) and up against my other rather competetive Tvr mates who positively encouraged my racing instincts and in doing so caused me to overly wear my Diff Gear…. There fault!

But fortunately a bunch of great mates who happen to be the ones who forced this racing incident to take place offered me his home and ramp so in true TVR fashion I took in an ailing car, flew a new Dif back in because Peter has done it before so helped me with all the tricks and back to my original point and after 7-8 hrs of True TVR frienship and spirit drove out the garage with what felt like a very taught and tight car.
It had transformed the slight slack that comes from the transmission into no play whatsoever.
A car that now had a great engine Ecu and transmission combo that was utterly connected.
Set off the drive on almost zero throttle and potter about down to 900 revs in any gear and no shunt.
A cold snap and then intense snow fall and down to -7 caught me and the car out one night so for fun I thought I’d see how well it fires up, cleared off some snow, peeled the door open gingerly,
And just like clock work started on the button after exactly one engine revelation exactly like it does in 26 degree heat.
A tickle of throttle to 1000 revs and slowly build to 1500 revs ( ticks over at a set 750 via mapping )
Which is just ace.
A few moments later it’s warm enough to drive and ticks over at 750 revs like a clock.
But started as you would expect from a car thats had the best thrown at it.
I had iridium 6 plugs too.
Another great move.
The late 450 engine was a glorious thing if looked after and tickled just a little bit.

Took years and attempts before replacing the Dif finally got the car to that point.
The evening I drove it back from Peters was like it had never been before, like I suppose they must have been like when brand new back in the day.
My Dif came from Adrian at Central Tvr who happened to completely re paint my car many years earlier and he gave me a beauty.
Like gold dust to see and possess a Dif with Zero wear.
Great days.

Sad news
No it’s ok. It had to happen mate.
I’d taken the car on a long journey of constant upgrading and understanding at the same time as using it almost as a daily for over a decade and taking her to lots of meets and Tvr fun days. a new clutch and bits and bobs but never ever failed on the road. Went to France, pulled a fit french bird :haha: went allover the Uk, did the lot.
Even raced at Hethel with lots of TVR boys and Lotus employees giving admiring glances at the glory of a pit Lane full of Tvr owners and us lot thrashing around making loads of noise.
Or the day a mate came trundling through the paddock at Snetterton with a deep growling ( special intake ) Chim 500 after driving out to get a part for Matt Smith to race on I seem to remember and just the presence of his dark coloured car with its rare dark interior and deep rumble, I remember thinking that’s a powerful car, happened to be yours Rich.
Great days so I think a body lift and tidy up would set your car up for a few decades longer.
Sad to let mine go but I think I set the car up enough to last a long long time yet.
