Hello.
Does anyone know of a good rebuilder in the South West (preferably) who would be able to fix a T5 gearbox?

Was rebuilt last year however it would not engage 2nd cleanly or at all.
Builder mentioned that something had worn and had tried to fix it.

Is fitted to a carbed Red top so not running massive power.

Thanks

He's not exactly South West, but "Bernie the Box" aka Gearboxman in Markyate has a good reputation.

The above seems to be well respected but I had to send a box back to them as it was not right when it went back in the car. I was not very happy really and it still isn`t 100% now. (2wd LT77)

I had problems with 2nd on a rebuilt T5 box. It was always stubborn to go into 2nd and then wouldn't go at all. On taking it apart I discovered the big thrust washer by second gear synchro was bent and jamming the synchro so you couldn't change gear. It was a sod to get apart. The parts were genuine Tremec parts but I found the original thrust washer and it was a bit of billet. The replacement was cast. I put the old one back in and it has been perfect since.

Thank you, gives something to check for.

Any other options out there?

We were told that we had a gearbox bearing failure on an Audi (we took it to the specialist we used telling them that we thought it was a wheel bearing, and they told us it was gearbox).
I got recommendations from a car group I'm on for Gearlink in Salisbury.
They test drove the car and diagnosed wheel bearing...... So, we didn't use them for a rebuild in the end.

They did come highly recommended though and if we did need a rebuild we'd be using them.

Get-Gear Transmissions LTD on Facebook seem to have a good reputation. They supply T5 gearboxes on an exchange basis, too.
