My pals Q7 suffered this last night - 2013 on around 95k miles.

I have a 2013 C7 Allroad with the same engine on 73k miles. Does anyone know if this model is vulnerable as well?

I've visually checked and felt the front of the polymer infill and it feels fine but I can't access the rear of the pulley.

Should I be replacing this as a matter of course?

Cheers

I've seen 2 or 3 go on that engine. Not "common", but yes it can happen.

Yes, it will be vulnerable as it uses the same bushed pulley. I’ve got two 3.0 TDIs, one on 270k and the other on 171k, and neither have had the pulley replaced. It really depends on heat cycles. Lots of short trips with hot and cold starts will wear the bush quicker than long motorway runs clocking up the miles where it stays at temp.

I've got an 09 A5 and if it is the same engine then i've had a pulley go on mine too think it was at about 140k

What does the crank pulley do in this engine? Is it just the aux belts or the cam belts and everything? (ie wrecked engine)
