I've got a Seat Leon 1.9 TSi and I have just doen a fluid change.

No problems with the change but afterwards I was getting a strong gearbox oil smell when I pulled up at lights and when I got out on stopping.

As I was in Devon at my daughters the day after the change I got the guy opposite to put the car on his ramp and take a look to find the leak, he reported no leak and said it must be what was splashed on the change.

Still suspicious after getting home and still smelling oil, I put it on my ramp, couldn't see any leaks and checked the levels at correct temp and all ok?

Anyone had the same? anywhere it could be leaking from onto exhaust and not be easily seen or does it take ages to clear from the engine despite me spraying everywhere I could see with brake cleaner to dispel the oil? Is it possible to have a small crack in the filter housing which is the only bit removed without being able to see oild dripping?

Which box is it? What’s the procedure for checking level and at what temp?

It's the seven speed one.

Correct level is obtained by overfilling, going through each gear after required temperature is reached and then allowing excess oil to drain from the sump that is above the filler tube.
