Seems hybrid turbo engines are the future for Porsche. Any rumours of new engines specs? I want a hybrid 911 but with real ev range, is this likely on new models or will they keep to mild hybrid assist on new turbo models?

The GTS approach likely to endure for now. I do not expect to see a plug in hybrid 911 any time soon. Infact god help us if we do, looking at the reception for electrified sports cars in general.

Artura ? Second in ECOTY and first in Autocar best sports car of 2024 ... and they are reviewing very well. I love mine ...

The problem with the Porsche GTS route is that it is so heavy and not that powerful ... and they don't have much experience. It's neither one thing nor the other.

I think even a mild hybrid 911 is going to tip the scales very much on the wrong side of where a 911 should be so one with what 400 miles of range? Would be really massive. Not many people's idea of what a 911 is.

Wouldn't Porsche be better off keeping the 911 petrol and developing even more great engine ranges and then if there's a market for this other thing, they can maybe invest in creating that?

My hope is that as the EV mandate experiment blows open completely, Porsche and others who've kept petrol engined cars under development will be glad they did

It's not important that the car should have a 400mile battery ... it is important that the car should be light and the battery big enough. It will be recharged both from plugging-in and by the electric motor acting as a generator when the engine is running ... which is a lot of the time !!

0-60 in 3 seconds. Not that powerful. 😂

Yes, in supercar terms 700PS is becoming the norm ... 500PS is not that powerful ... and 0-60 is a yesterday number because dividing the 1/10ths S is almost meaningless in real terms ?

My thinking was that since the 991 I’ve found the 911 to be more gt than sports car now (GT3 exception) so a hybrid with range would be useful and appealing. I think the ship has sailed for lightweight engaging Carreras, at least for me.

Erm it was a collaboration with Rimac who are vastly experienced , and most people think that 550bhp is the sweet spot for the road.

I’ve test driven an artura and although I’d happily own one it’s a completely different everyday proposition to a 992 gts.

Well done on the artura - great choice, but personally (as a 992 non gts owner) just don’t want the hassle, would be 3rd car for me, not a second like the 992 is.

A useful piece of information ... I wonder what a GTS would weigh as a true plug in hybrid ? Maybe this concept is the wrong starting point, hence the best alternative which I agree is clever but ...

I agree also that it's unfair to compare the price of a heavily discounted nearly new car to a brand new car price and expect equivalent performance ... but the market is as it is.

As for a daily, Autocar did run an Artura as a long termer and were very happy with it ... but points taken ...

Will there be new true hybrid engines in a Porsche ??

Porsche no battery / hybrid experience? What a bizarre comment to make.

Taycan

Rimac

911 997 which raced Petit LeMans, was leading Nurburgring 24 hours with its electric flywheel accumulator and two electric motors on the front axle

919 which won LeMans three times

918 which beat both the McLaren P1 and LaFerrari as the ultimate hypercar

Then I look forward to seeing what they are going to do with that experience ... I don't believe that the 992GTS is it since this appears to be too small a bang for the weight and cost buck ... do you ?

Probably continue to not dilute the 911 product.

Porsche have shown plenty ability to electrify and are obviously choosing not to.

If nothing else, they are purists: their view of the ultimate sportscar is the S/T.
No hybrid, no turbo, no PDK.

On top of that they are investing heavily in synthetic fuels so that should give you a suggestion where they prefer to go with the 911
