My wife and both ride, R1250RS and F900XR, and I am thinking of getting a couple of lightweight small bikes to stick on a trailer behind our motorhome when we are in Europe. We don’t need anything particularly fast and would have nakeds to help keep cool. We we won’t be on motorways so I was thinking of a couple of Triumph Speed 400 or something like that.
What would you suggest test riding and getting?

Depending on where you've got planned, and how much you wish to spend... Himalayans? The new BSA Bantam?

I love the look of the scrambler 400x, or the NX500 (cb500x that was)

I don’t have a big (or modern) bike, and put my 1981 Superdream 400 on a trailer and take it with us. This year I am planning to actually ride it from Midlands to Anglesey as part of the holiday. In my more mature years (54) I found 43bhp is just the right power for just pottering around enjoying the ride.

A friend has a Fantic Caballero 500 which looks a good laugh. Sound lovely.

I hadn’t even thought of Fantic, great shout.
There is a dealer not that far from me, looks like I will be paying them a visit.

They are supposed to be in financial difficulties, maybe take that into account when considering.

This would be my suggestion. I had a look round one at the local dealer the other day and I was really impressed with how 'grown up' it looked. And for under four grand it wouldn't be a big stress to trailer it and leave it places.

Having spoken to someone who's ridden one a fair bit he said they're really good fun too.

If you're not doing motorways and just low speeds then surely the CBR125 would fit the bill, or an MSX125 if you want something a little less aggressive. If you're not going that fast, you might as well save a chunk of money on the bike and fuel.

Depends on the motorhome and how you want to ride, but for me I'd stick a couple of Groms in the garage to save the hassle of a trailer (in terms of security, parking en route, etc).

A pair Honda CT125 Hunter Cubs? Great for lugging supplies back to the motorhome, and surprisingly good fun to knock about on.

Thanks everyone.
The bikes will be on a trailer.
We won’t be riding on motorways but do want something with a bit of go, I don’t think I would enjoy the Picos on a 125 or scooter.
Looks like one of the scramblers or speed 400 will be the first test rides.

After a few test rides the Speed 400 won and I now have couple of second hand ones sitting the garage.

I wouldn't want one as my only bike but they seem ideal for what I want them for and for the money seem great value

Just have to remember what you are riding before making an overtake!

I was going to suggest these too. Really low price, made in japan, great reviews. Cheap enough not to care if they are getting soaked on a trailer.
