Hi, I'm interested in a 3.0 F type, the 375hp model, I've had a browse of the buying guide on here.

However, the car's a long way from me... what should I be asking the dealer over the phone? Maybe the main three things, say? Also interested if anyone can share experience of this particular model!

Loads, sticky buttons, lambda sensors on both of mine.

I’d go main dealer and get as new as possible, ideally with a warranty if possible.

Ok thanks... maybe not ideal for a long distance deal, then? Also maybe explains the step in price between "approved" cars and smaller dealers.

Whatever you do, get a 2016 or 2017 onwards. My earlier 2013 V6S was a maintenance\repair\financial nightmare. So many parts were superseded from 2013 to 2016.

That said, get the right car and they're magical. I couldn't stay away got a 2021 P450.

Interesting, thanks, I do have a 2016 one saved, but it says 335hp, not 375? More research needed! Is there a mileage where a mega service comes up, for example cam chain, anything like that?

Like you say ..... Research is the key . Plenty to choose from so no need to buy the first you find . As in all Cars buy the best you can find and don't discount buying from Specialists or even a Private sale . Main Dealers can be pretty crap and with the car now out of production stock levels can vary .

There’s a V6 and there’s a V6S - that is the difference.

I bought mine unseen from Scotland from a private seller. He’d owned it for a while and full service history. No issues over the past 15 months and around 10k miles.

They are great cars. Good luck with the search.

Slow / lazy / non working pop up dash vent is a common one, hugely irritating imho.

As above, central air vents not rising or getting stuck midway it seems is increasingly common.

Also -

exhaust valves stuck closed on the S models, so pressing the exhaust button on the centre console doesn't liberate any additional noise.

supercharger pulley rattles.

coil packs - lumpy idle usually easy to spot.

a/c not working - condensers seem particularly vulnerable to stones.

reversing camera should be clear and not be suffering from cataracts.

Yes thanks, a bit of research shows the V6S is the one I want! Looks like the timing chains are basically ok on these, then?

Private prices seem a bit optimistic, about the same as small dealers where at least you can give it back if not as described... then seems a big step to approved used. I do wonder what will happen to values if Jaguar are effectively not a car manufacturer? Also, how did they manage to make an aluminium car so heavy?

Sorry just random musings, interested to hear others' thoughts, but I'm sure it will have the "look back and smile" factor!

Ok thanks, sounds like the vents are more a negotiating point than a reason to avoid a car.

Conversely both F-Type owners I know well have pre 2015 cars and have had no issue whatsoever.

I see that as how to absolutely rinsed on the price and no guarantee of a better car or less hassle given JLR dealers stellar reputation!

Good specialist all the way IMHO.

Depends on outlook, personally on both of mine, a 2014 and a 2019 p450 - a semi erect or lopsided dash vent spoilt my mood on heading out for a drive. Both needed new motorised vent modules at £850 ish parts costs, but covered under warranty.

The 6 exhaust lambda sensors are each v expensive thi k £200 part cost each, all covered under warranty.

A few cars with failed engines at dealers.

Full service £900 ish, warranty £2200 ish a year - so dealer worth £3k more for starters

P450 2019 on, is a much better car to drive.

All v8 prices

All useful info thanks Benno, probably can't stretch to 2019 model, though!

They look great, don't they!

The trouble with research is that I now can't find the exact model I want... thought briefly about a Mustang as an alternative, but the interiors... ?

I’m 4.5 years into ownership on a 69 plate R. Issues to date
- door button stopped working
- nsf headlamp drl went dim
- sos system doing false ‘it’s been nicked’ alerts. Still ongoing but I’ve found the tweak that lasts about 9 months before triggering again
- oil level sensor is just pants.
- 2x o2 sensors.

I keep a jag warranty going too, though it’s had little use in the last year other than one of the o2 sensors.

I had coolant leaks on mine, under the supercharger.
Great car though when it worked.
