Fish removed from nature reserve
Discussion
I was going to make some comment on the claim culture we have in the UK that has led to this but words fail me
A South Yorkshire council is so determined to stop people from angling at a nature reserve it has removed all the fish.
Sheffield City Council said it had decided to take the unusual step to help prevent accidents at the Shire Brook Valley Reserve.
In 2004, the Health and Safety Executive banned fishing at the site because of safety concerns.
Councillor David Barker said: "Fishing somewhere else is the only option."
The move follows an accident last year when a teenager carrying a fishing rod received an electric shock from nearby cables, resulting in serious burns.
Mr Barker said: "It is impossible to enter the reserve from most directions without passing under a high voltage pylon, so the risk of electrocution will always be there.
"It is unfortunate that a few individuals have made the fish removal necessary as the change in policy has so clearly been made to protect anglers and ensure that there will never be a recurrence of last year's accident."
The fish have been taken to other ponds and lakes in the district where fishing is allowed.
Vixpy1 - Obviously not.
Why not drain the lake in case anyone falls in and drowns, cut the trees down in case anyone walks into one etc etc...........
How can it be a nature reserve if they are taking the nature out of it, surely relocating the power lines would be a better solution.

And next weeks story:
"South Yorkshire council has removed house keys from all of its constituants and locked them at home for the foreseeable future.
A spokesman(sorry, person)said "there have been too many incidents involving people outside of their homes,so we have decided to keep them indoors so to protect them. We will be removing their household items too as the potential for injury is too great to risk".

The concept of personal responsibility is fading fast.
All they need are clear signs warning of the danger, then let people make up their own minds, if they fry so be it.
I agree JL but it doesn't seem to work that way these days.Who's to blame, the claimants or the lawyers?

In this case the idiots who put power cables through a nature reserve ie an area reserved for nature not something with the potential to kill you (not saying that nature cant kill you)

Actally it was the other way round. The area was an old coal mine previous to being a "nature reserve" (it's a rather posh name for what is in effect a pond with rushes in it)
