Does anyone suffer with their boot gas strut not working . It seems strange that it only seems to happen when the car is cold for example when started first thing in the morning. I lean over to place my jacket in the boot and the lid clonks me on the head - most unpleasant. I feel like it is getting me back for thrashing it the day before.

On the Exige S2 the strut doesn't stay up on it's own. When you've moved the bootlid all the way up, you need to move the strut to the left (from memory) so that the top half rests on the top of the bottom half.

you cannot move the strut sideways. The whole point of it is that it supports the boot lid on its own.It does work usually but for some reason not first thing in the morning maybe its just lazy!Due to the amount of surprised posts I assume that only the Exige has this strut.

111R, is all about weight, gas Strut adds to much, must be saving at least 50g's.

My new Exige (pick it up Saturday) has a catch half way up to lock it open (push it sideways against itself) as per post above. Maybe yours is a different setup?

Cheers,
Ali

just had another look - nope , the strut will not move sideways all in one piece.Maybe they changed it due to too many headaches

Our S2 "gas strut" does the same, I'm sure I read on another forum or an Exige S2 car for sale advert that this (ie a strut that actually holds the engine cover up without the use of your head) was a Lotus upgrade (free?), anyone know about this?

You exige lads are spoilt - I always thought your head was the only way to keep a lotus boot open. Strut or no strut.

I used to use my head to hold up the boot lid on my S1 Elise no probs. But this thing lulls you into a false sense of security. It holds itself up for about 5 seconds and then when you look into the boot to get something it drops on your head with a whack - I swear I heard it giggling!

I think I read somewhere there's a recall for the boot-strut on the S2 Exige.... or then maybe I was dreaming???

Ah looks like there's been a partial recall, worth a phone call to my local dealer I suspect (pity they didn't just let us all know, that would have been nice!)
