Shuttleworth flying proms
Discussion
We’ve booked tickets for the flying proms at Shuttleworth this weekend, which is my first visit.

Gates open long before the flying bits start, but I don’t know how much time we’ll need to see the site and other attractions?
Is the house only open for people on guided tours (which have sold out) or can you just wanted through, National Trust style?
Are you able to leave seats and food in the car and then go back for it?

It's not that big a site, Duxford it is not
Flying proms is very much a music event which just happens to have some aircraft in the air. I'm local and have been a few times in the past, usually turning up at about 5 to watch the pre-show singers.
I've not been into the house but it's always been as described, open house so you get to wander around at your leisure. Drop them an email about closure time, in the past they've explicitly advertised the time when the house closes before the main event starts.
The hangers can be interesting and the gardens nice to wander around, but it's certainly not something you could fill 7 hours with, 90 minutes max.
The last show I went to a few weeks back I was parked in the usual field by the trees on the new approach road. I gather a few people have been parked by the lake behind the house on busier shows which is a bit further. You can certainly go back to the car and retrieve stuff, they do all the ticket checks when you drive in before the parking. Proms visitors normally pick their picnic spot and spend most of the time drinking before the show in the evening sunshine
