Hi all,

My parents' aging all-in-one PC is now at its end of life, they have tasked me with ordering their new one. I've specced this, but thought I'd get the PH opinion, in case I've gone too far.

Their current machine has lasted them almost a decade, and they're looking for longevity again (maybe not quite 10 years, but still a decent amount of time). They aren't restricted on budget, initially my Father told me he'd be happy to spend £1,500!! It will solely be used for emails, a lot of web browsing and even more YouTube. Honestly, my parents' are worse than my Nephew when it comes to YouTube.

Given the pretty much unrestricted budget I've upped the memory and added about 500GB of storage (my parents have their photos and videos stored locally and on an external they keep at mine and update once every month or so; cloud storage isn't something they trust).

Have I gone too far, or does this all seem reasonable for a home machine for a pair of septuagenarians?

I assume they already have a nice, big, OAP approved monitor.

Hardware is OK for the specs, maybe a little on the pricey side but you get that with SFF PCs, ou're paying for the lack of size.

You could probably save on the Windows license if you're willing to install it yourself. You can easily find it at half that price.

If they're happy paying for it, there is nothing wrong with it.

You could get much better performance for this price.

I bought a Geekom A6 with 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD a couple of weeks ago to replace my aging PC. Cost £424 from Amazon and with two 24" monitors and four external drives attached has been rock solid. It's an amazing little thing sitting silently on my desk.

Have they got a TV and a streaming stick of some sort for the Youtube, or is the PC their main method of entertainment?
