Hi , I am looking at options for a steering rack for my car a Mini Cooper 1.5 b38 2014 October ….When I check part numbers for the car I notice there are quite a few changes since 2014 up to 2020 ….When I click it n all the part numbers from 14 to 20 it says number was found on my car the F55 cooper so my question is am I reading this correctly that I can use any rack with those part numbers ..

I can't help much, but normally when you click on an "ended" part it tells you what it was superceded by.

I forget the exact wording but it does tell you if the revised parts aren't backwards compatible to earlier cars.

Isn’t there an option to enter your VIN to check compatibility?

Hi, yes that is what i have done and i get the list ..
When i click on all the part numbers from 2014 to 2020 it does say that they are found on my 2014 so i am presuming that it can be used ..

RealOEM maps VIN to model variant, but doesn't then cross-check optional extras (e.g. in the parts listing for cars with or without option S5DPA).

I think you're right, that ALL those part numbers are compatible with all 2014 cars onwards.

It's not always clear, but it looks like the earlier part numbers have been superceded.

That can be for multiple reasons:

Part tracking is easier for Service if the new part gets a new number, rather than an index change, which Service can't usually deal with.

The OEM supplier might have been changed, although the part itself might be identical. This requires a new part number due to the new contract etc.

Design update.

It's not always foolproof.

If you are looking for a used part with those numbers, you will have to give it a try, see if it works.

Hopefully no coding involved.

Many thanks for taking time to reply ....If i search all those part numbers i get a different price for every one of them (new)and all of them are found on my my car according to the information on the real oem ...Now the first one 32106870901 i can get for£400 and the later ones are coming out more expensive ,also the part number on my oem rack on the car is 38021545 that is listed under a lot of models x1 f45/48 etc ..Very confusing when trying to nail down what i need and yes it will need coding that i do know 100 % .

They all look like different ones to me, looks like two versions depending on park assist, then 3 further options depending on build year.

I presume you know you cannot just swap the racks over without coding ?

Hi yes i am aware that they need coding as i have already had one fitted, they are different up until park assist but from years 2014 to 2019 without park assist it looks like a few changes have been made but interchangeable retrospectively..Just need to nail it down and be 100%

apart from the 1st one the part numbers are the same for non-parkassist or parkassist, EXCH means it's an exchange unit, so you swap yours for theirs and some money.

If you go into each part number, the real dates are actually listed, for example, the 1st one shows

32106870901
Exch. steering box, electr.

From:
07/01/2014
To:
05/27/2015 (ENDED)
Weight:
9.910 kg
Price:

Supersedes:

32106870589
(03/01/2014 — 09/01/2014)

Those dates don't match the main page with the schematic, but the details page do line up with each other, if you go through each of them.

So I'd say the 1st part number (32106870901) is correct given the date. 38021545 doesn't even come up for that model or car, for me at least, are there no codes starting 321 on it?

32106870901
Exch. steering box, electr.

From:
07/01/2014
To:
05/27/2015 (ENDED)

2106884129
Exch. steering box, electr.

From:
11/01/2016
To:
04/06/2017 (ENDED)

32106887669
Exch. steering box, electr.

From:
07/01/2017
To:
01/30/2018 (ENDED)

32106899994
Steering gear, electric

From:
03/01/2019
To:
10/03/2019 (ENDED)

I wouldn't say lots of BMW cars, but BMW1's and minis do share quite a few components.
