2004 Porsche Boxster 550S 50th Anniversary Edition
Discussion
Hi, very interested in this as I had one back in 2004.
Been looking through the paperwork and photos and was hoping you could help me on a few points.
Why the car needed so much work in 2024? In particular why was welding needed to the exhaust system? Is the exhaust all OEM?
The write up mentions a dent to the boot, I can seem to see it in the photos. could you point it out or add an a photo to show exactly how bad it is please.
the rust to the underside. How bad is this? have you had any quotes for making it good?
Tyres, one was replaced in 2024. How old are the other 3?
Do you have any gauge on disks and pads, how much life do they have left.
Do you have the umbrella for the passenger side slot?
Thank you in advance and sorry for the barrage of questions.

Hi @jamesel3
Thanks for your interest and bids:
I bought the car in 2024 from an owner that had stored and not used it for around 5-7 years. Hence the work last year was if-you-like a recommissioning service.
I would have to speak to the garage in detail about the exhaust welding but I believe it was possibly as a result of them changing the Lambda sensors and some seized nuts which is often the case on cars of this age.
I believe the exhaust is all OEM and original.
The dent on the bootlid is quite difficult to show on an image and I would say dent makes it sound worse than it is.
(I've looked through the images and unfortunately I can't see an image of it either). Basically in the past someone has closed the boot lid on to something and because the boot space is quite shallow, this something on the inside has been sitting a little higher than the space available, this has caused whatever was on the inside to create a very small high spot on outer boot lid (less than the size of a 5p coin). Its not broken the paint and I'm sure a dent removal firm could resolve this pretty easily.
The rust on the underside seems to be just surface corrosion mainly at the bottom of the front wheel arches and a little along the underside of the cills. I've not had a quote to do any paintwork on the car but being as it appears to be surface only I imagine it would be easily resolved.
Tyres: one was replaced last year due to a puncture, the other 3 seem fine but I will have to check their age later when I'm with the car.
Brakes: sorry I don't have a gauge but I was told by the garage last year circa 2500 miles ago when the work was being done that they were fine. Had they needed to be replaced then they would have been. Also no advisories or otherwise on the most recent MOT in June.
Unfortunately, I do not have the umbrella for the passenger side slot. I think these can either be purchased from either a Porsche dealer or often found pre-owned on eBay.
Many Thanks
