High mileage S3 8P
Discussion
Hi all. Currently driving a modified 208 GTi which now looks very nice, and I like it, but I just don't love it, can't say I've really gelled with it. I think I want something 'more' if that makes sense.
On my hitlist for a new car, eventually was a return to MINI probably an F56 or perhaps upgrading to my car's bigger brother, the 308 GTi. However, I came across a YouTube video featuring an S3 and believe it or not as a hot hatch fan, I've never owned anything German (apart from my previous R53 I suppose)
Under £5k you're looking at 125k miles as a minimum, which doesn't inherently bother me, I've had cars beyond that before. I was looking at an S4 avant a while back for a family hack, but was put off by the V8 servicing costs. What are they like on these?
To be honest, I used to swap cars every 6-12 months, then I decided to pack that in as was losing loads and since about 2009 I've kept my cars longer term, between 3-5 years. I'm actually kind of up for something even longer, that I can proper sort out and cherish.
Another thing is a 5 door would be bloody handy, as I have 3 kids! They don't often go in my car, it's really just for a small commute and the odd blast at the weekend, but there is that Sportsback option. I do think though, they look a lot worse and also seem rarer/more expensive in the 8P form.
Any opinions and previously experiences welcome

Probably more than my 208 though! My 3 year old is already kicking the back of my seat.
Are the autos to be avoided? I've never had one, though does open up more options... just wary as hear of expensive repair builds for these.
Am I right in thinking the Sportsback came with the facelift model, therefore all of those are facelifts? I'm definitely warming to them, and it certainly makes the reasoning for changing more viable. There's one local to me for sale for £4k albeit with 170k miles *gulp*
