Hopefully somebody’s stayed in one?

Not stayed here, but we stayed in a Villa next door and took a walk through. Plenty of rooms with private pools.

No idea on pricing though - I didn't check. Also, there may be an issue with wildfires in that location.

There are also some up in Elounda - but they may be over your budget.

Have a look at this

https://www.bahiazul.com/en/

We have been 3 times and it is pretty good.

We have been in late October and temperatures usually pretty good.

October can be a gamble with the temperature. We've been several times and it was fine but the pool was too cold to use last time in Crete, first 2 weeks october.

October - I'd look at Thailand on the East side (they call it the North in term of islands), like Koh Chang etc. Get a fab villa with a private pool for that money - flights less than £600 each eco. leaving you £3800 for accom (travel is negligible).

This. We're tied to school holidays so late October, but have had various holidays in Crete and southern Spain with rain as a significant feature.

Forget the Med in October - Canaries at that time of year (or further, such as Thailand suggestion).

Thanks guys all much appreciated and we’re looking at Thailand but we’ve not been away for 3 years after kids issues and I’m happy just to get away tbh.

Last 2 years (2023 and 2024) we've been in Crete in October and the weather has been glorious. In 2023 we were there until 8th October and in 2024 we were there until 16th October.

You could also consider Cyprus.

You've rolled the dice and the odds have favoured you. Pools are cold and prolonged rainy/cloudy/windy periods are much more likely.

Been to Crete plenty of times in late Sept and into October- their season runs to end of Oct and the sea is generally the warmest.
Personally dislike the Canaries and if Europe would go to Crete

Slightly left field - The Lawford in Malindi Kenya - Villa with Private Pool £1400 for the last week in October. Flights around £1050 each.

First place I ever stayed at in Africa back in the 1980s, and I've been meaning to go back ever since, and at that price maybe next year when not tied to school holidays and visiting our daughter in the USA.

A week at the Riu Palace Oasis in Maspalomas, Gran Canaria would be around £3000 in October I think with Tui.
Flights, baggage, transfers, half board, swim-up room included.
Excellent 5 star hotel in a nice sea front area.

No you’ve been unlucky. Crete averages five days with some rain in October. Sea temp is 23-24C.
And not as many tourists so a very pleasant place to be!

The sea was lovely for us too. The pool, not so, and I paid a lot to be there.

We stay at a small place and pool is fine (sun is on it all day) but I never pay a lot to be there as I prefer simpler accommodation in Greece. A pool, good hosts and a short walk to beach and tavernas are the main criteria. Actually prefer Sept/Oct rather than May/June.

I'm all with you late Sept, but I just found Ocober to be too cool for the pool - it lost the sun mid afternoon so the position didn't help. Simple can be fun but I like a "rock star" villa here and there :-)

I would say the key is in the small print of the Villa you're booking. During which months of the year is the pool heated?

You’ll get a really nice villa for £5k with all the privacy you’d ever want - and have money left over for eating out

Daios Cove, Crete.

Can fly direct from Liverpool.

Plenty of room options with a pool.

You’ll comeback feeling brand new.

Yeah, wasn't heated at all - never thought to check tbh.
