On a serious note as I understand it, either do a diploma at college, takes 3 years, or go on an intensive training course with a private course provider, they charge about £3k but you're ready to tackle small non electrical jobs i.e. stopcocks, dripping taps etc striaght off.

Do a web search there are several courses out there.

Go for the sparky
It's dryer, less heavy clobber to carry around and since they changed things so that everything that a house owner does has to be checked by a sparky you'll get money just for going round and having a cup of tea made for you
