I was born in the wrong era for electric cars, so I don't find electric cars desirable, but do you find them desirable though?

I can't drum up the same passion and emotion for electric cars like I can for ICE cars for example. But where do you sit on it?

Not overly so, but some are getting there. I like the noise of a good petrol engine, that's the problem. But I'm liking the look of the Renault 5. Looks like it could be good fun to chuck about

There are desirable EVs which are great driving machines and there are EVs which are just white goods.

There are desirable ICE cars and there are ICE cars which are just disposable junk.

I think the proportion of desirable EVs within the EV category is higher than the proportion of desirable ICE cars within the ICE car category.

Hi Lee wavey

You've gone from commenting on every EV thread to starting one. You'll get there in the end and have a EV on your drive before you know it. biggrin

And yes, my EV is far more desirable then the petrol SUV it's replaced.

HTH.

Not sure how this is any different to this thread –

Surely there is nothing new to add to the debate?

It depends.

Do I find them desirable as a weekend car? Absolutely not.

Do I find them desirable as a car to use through the week doing 2k miles a month? Yes I do.

I find an EV much more desirable than a 2.0 diesel or a 1.0 3cyl.

I can see the attraction, quiet transport to work with little noise.

I had a 1.5 hybrid yaris for a while, I enjoyed the 1st month, less so in the 2nd, by month 5 was fed of that washing machine of a car

I got CX-3 manual with the 2.0 Skyactiv engine, its inferior is many ways to the Yaris.

But it has a great gearbox and the Skyactiv engine has a nice growl when you step on it.

Slowly getting there for me, I think. Still not quite ready for one yet but I have to admit the R5 / Alpine look like they could be a laugh, and I've heard good things about the Ioniq 5 N on another forum.

For a daily car that will only ever do short journeys and sit in traffic they are highly desirable. No noise, vibration or changing gear, the ultimate appliance for the boring drive.

As a sportscar that is used for B road blasts, road trips and trackdays. Zero desire, I just don't care. They will never be as involving as an ICE car.

im fully on board with EVs as daily drivers, the instant none stop torque and relaxing drive makes this a no brainer

the plan eventually is have a fun toy for when its actually possible to enjoy driving and it will be pre hybrid, pre particle filter, pre nanny electronic controls

Sure, not as much as ICE cars but I certainly wouldn't mind having either of these in my garage...

Being able to spank the throttle without caring about how much it's costing me was a major selling point. When I had a 3.5l ICE I always felt guilty watching the average mpg plummet if I felt like having fun.

Edit: felt like a better use of money to have a car with low running costs I can use how I want, rather than a nice car but fretting about fuel and servicing costs.

It's not EV's themselves, its the sanctimonious owners of EV's that puts me off.

In the last week, I have driven the new Capri and the Alpine A290. The Capri left me completely cold. I really rather enjoyed the A290. It has a hot hatch feel. But I think that the problem is that modern cars are too cossetting. A 20 year old Yaris feels more like driving than a modern 3 Series.

I've never understood the dislike for EVs. I don't care what powers it; engine, battery, foot pedals or a mate pushing, if it has wheels and a steery thing I want to drive it. Always been that way. Milk float, double decker bus, Countach, plastic Kettcar, doesn't matter, they all appeal.

The new 5 is the only one I have seen I would not sell instantly if given it, I do not have the living space, drive, work charging to ever have one for the foreseeable future, like a huge number of people
