How does it get to the UK, Scotland in fact ?
Does it have the range of fuel to fly all the way from USA to here .
I thought helicopters were generally lower length journeys. Did it fly over all that sea ? They fly relatively slow I understand.

Hoping for an expert.

A friend of mine who's ex close protection was working with Obama when he came over many years ago, he told me literally everything is airfreighted over including the fuel for "The Beast", he said it was unbelievable and on a totally different level to any other head of state/President, they didn't want the UK police involved, concessions were given, with my friend working closely with Obama, however he was one of a handful of UK police representatives who did.

All for visiting his own golf courses. Disgusting and embarrassing really. Mental the amount of tax payers money involved. Then he's back soon albeit more formal.

As other have said it gets transported inside an aircraft. However they can be refuelled in the air. The film The Perfect Storm is based on a true story and the rescue helicopters had to be refuelled in mid air in order to reach the boat Hannah Boden. When the weather got so bad that they were unable to refuel again they had to abort and return to shore/land

I read about it in a book written by one of the pararescue jumpers in one of the helicopters.

It is kinda ridiculous, & disappointing that UK taxpayers are on the hook for big costs just because he is who he is & wants to come here.

I prob wouldn’t have grudged it so much if it was a couple of days tacked on the end of an official visit.

Not really relevant to the OP, but Marine One is still the 62 year old Sea King despite the US Department of Defense spending $4.4bn on a replacement for delivery in 2010, cancelling it because of delay and budget bloat then ordering a different replacement which should have been delivered in 2017 but hasn't yet and has cost $4.7bn so far.

Well not quite. He's met Starmer, Swinney and and agreed a trade deal with EU Commission president Ursula von der Leyen.

Fair point. Swinney seems more interested in Gaza, which is nowhere near Scotland.

Getting back to the subject of the Presidential helicopters. The aircraft in question is technicaly a Sikorsky VH-3D . The VH-3D is the VIP version of the rather old SH-3 Sea King which, in most cases, has been withdrawn from front line military service.

Of course, most of us in the UK are more familiar with the licence built Westland versions of the Sea King which served for many years with the British military (RAF and Royal Navy).

A very, very long time ago my Father and I armoured the floor of the (current at that time) "Beast" at a small industrial unit in Derbyshire. It was 80`s, so must have been Regan's era.
