Cancelled surgery
Discussion
My partner was due to have an operation tomorrow for a hiatus hernia and GERD.
She's had the symptoms for years, but been a lot worse since November 2023. She has been unable to work (carer so lifting which she can't do and also one of her symptoms is being sick so would get sent home in case it was a bug).
She is being sick daily. There is blood most times now (its unusual when there isnt). The pain is horrible. She is doubled over in pain. Can't sleep due to the pain.
The operation has been cancelled due to industrial action...to say we are pissed is an understatement.
Twice she has ended up in hospital following advice from GP/111, but both times just left in 'Fit to Sit'. Obs taken, paracetamol given eventually. This includes after spending hours chucking up blood.
Has anyone got any advice on what to do next?
We have phoned admissions who are understandly swamped. They advised to contact our GP to get them to write a letter requesting them to expedite the surgery. The GP has done this now (or will shortly, I only got the call a few moments ago).
Admissions have said, along with the GP to head down to A&E if the symptoms get worse. Its getting worse each day, but knowing she had this date was a light at the end of the tunnel.

A good starting point would be PALS at the hospital in question.
For what it's worth, I had surgery in 2024 which was cancelled twice, the first time it happened I was in the anaesthetic room wearing a gown and wired up to all the machines waiting to go under. Second time was a couple of days before the date. First date was December 5th. Second date was January 2nd. Was finally done on January 16th.
