Just seen a 911 that is £10k cheaper (ish) in guards red, I tend to keep cars 18 months so expect it to be expensive but £10k is a lot in that time frame, will I lose most/some on resale. I get the "buy what you want" and if I was buying new absolutely, but is this a reasonable compromise for a substantial saving

Colours are all personal.

Guards Red is a classic colour and really suits the (earlier) cars, but may be a bit too strong for some tastes on the bigger contemporary models.
Carmine Red may work better on newer Porsches.

If it s already took the hit for being red why would you take another one on resale?

It will just be deprecation.

I like Guards red up to and including the 993, maybe the 996 but it doesn't seem to suit later cars. 930 and 964 are the sweet spot for guards red IMO

I really like that.

If you buy into the argument that entry level 911 is the best 911, then that colour and spec seems a logical extension.

Short term, it might be an unpopular colour choice but, like white, I think the 1980s colours are due a bit of a revival.

I don't know about resale value, but it's not a common sight on the roads any more.
The large majority of 991/992 models are anything other than guards red

Grey, grey, grey or black. Same with Astons

Google the numberplate, it's a Press Car. So might not be the colour influencing the price.

Hugely helpful, just watched a video of the car doing a drag race against a cybertruck that's not going to help resale !!!! Agree they do seem to be more popular on older models, I have the same feeling about a lugano blue, it's a bit bright for me (although I did have a seneca blue Emira). This is the one that matches the "he works in accounting" view of me.... and the same as my Cayman GTS 981 I had which I liked.

A friend of mine aspires to own every model of Porsche sports cars in guards red. He currently has: 964, 944, 924, mk1 boxster, 928. Quite a few to go but a potential buyer come resale time

I like it and £10k off for Mat Watson having farted in it is fair, not to be sniffed at, even.

6 months ago you could have bought an albeit pre registered new 992.1 base or T for that money , so with that in mind and apart from being a press car i think its expensive no matter what the colour with that mileage

I guess it's only £10k off if you get it back on resale, if its £100k now and sell for £80K, compared to one at £110k that I sell for £90k (ignoring cost of capital) then its not a saving (obvs). So just wondering what will be the difference in 18 months time when only real variable is colour. Is it a £5k gap ?

I like red and had a guards red Porsche a good few years ago but for some reason that example above doesn’t do it for me. It could just be the photos that are a bit dull, maybe better in reality and most likely much better with a bit of sun. By the way, whoever bought my car wrapped it in some dull colour so didn’t share my view. It’s a funny ol’ world.

If you’re into the colour, a £10k discount sounds nice tbh. Who knows what the future holds. Not sure I would worry that much about it.

Ha! I’ve been looking at that exact car pondering the same!

I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t be totally dead set against an ex Press Car. My MacanS was one of the Press Fleet and there were videos of Mat Watson and others driving it around. But aside from a transfer box (which was par for the course with early Macan’s anyway), it never put a foot wrong and was auctioned through here recently looking and allegedly driving superbly still.

For me, I’m almost into a 992.1 C2S but wouldn’t disregard a Guards Red with the right spec.

By comparison a new one is £140K (though seems a lot)

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202506103...

then at 5K miles (the original posted link) equates to £40K (£8 per mile) loss.

Is it me or is the depreciation on this model off the charts.

Looks superb in guards. I bet if you called the OPC up saying you’d be prepared to put a deposit on the car today they’d knock another 10% off. Ever since launch of 992 I’ve thought the standard Carrera and S, 4S the best looking in the range having liked the turbo models of previous water cooled models. In a few years colours that aren’t in vogue now always come back. I remember white 993 or 996 were not popular at all. You’d be paying a premium today (if you can find one).

I think if I ever were to order a new 911, it would be guards with black brake calipers and black interior (and bucket seats)
