Which Euro cylinder door lock?

In the process of buying a house and one of the first things i'll be doing is changing the door locks. Typical front door, rear patio door and the garage lock as well. Unsure what type of lock the garage has so for now just researching Euro cylinders.
I've read pros and cons of having a physical knob on the inside so it's quicker to lock/unlock your door from the inside. Nay sayers say a thief could reach their hand through the letterbox and turn the knob. On the other hand in a fire you're stuck inside if you can't find your keys.
Physical knob on the patio door makes sense as the thief would just smash the glass to get in anyway.

So which lock should I go for and do any of them offer reduced home insurance premiums? I'd like one key to unlock the front door and garage if that's possible (probably isn't). Currently looking at the Avocet ABS locks, two for about £100ish and the keys for it can't be replicated without a special code. Yale do a 3 star lock for a bit less money also

Just ask for "keyed alike" locks so the same key fits all.

So the star rating is meaningless, just get any euro cylinder lock?

Go 3 star with thumb lock.
The Q secure think they are called are fine. Just replaced 3 here and had them in our 2 doors at the last house.

You said " I'd like one key to unlock the front door and garage" so you need keyed-alike locks.

A decent locksmith supplier of the Avocet or Ultion or anything similar can supply them rebuilt to all take the same key.

It's usually something done as a supply service not a factory option as there's too many combinations of cylinders.

So (for example) you order a set of cylinders of the same basic type in the different sizes/styles you want and request they be keyed alike and they'll swap the pins out before shipping.

Swapped out all over locks for Yale Platinum 3 star.

Keyd alike means all locks use the same key which is an option they offer.

These are standard locks which are snapped in seconds.

Our locksmiths say they rarely if ever see snapped Euro cylinders. But of you're really paranoid you can fit an escutcheon.

We went Ultion with thumb twists inside. Quite happy with them.

Really? Is it possible to be happy or unhappy with Euro cylinders? Aside from being smug about having one key for all our domestic locks and another for hundreds of commercial ones, I can confidently report that I never, ever think about locks.

An aluminium escutcheon or a badly measured cylinder would still be vulnerable.

Lock snapping has gotten a lot less common as anti snap and PAS are pretty standard features, but similarly you'd still expect to have it on any locks you want.

No, they will be cheap rubbish and don't have a single accreditation. Look for ones with a British kitemark which insurance companies will require as a minimum for cover.
But realistically don't scrimp and spend the money go for getter than the minimum, multi star ratings, anti snap etc. They won't be much more expensive overall

Also euro locks come in different sizes so you need to know what sizes are needed for the doors you will have. So you probably can't do that till you are in the property and can remove and measure the old locks.

It s a common method of entry on upvc doors where the door handles can be broken to expose a nice big section of the cylinder to snap off. You can get more solid handles as well as anti snap cylinders to defend against that.

Possibly less of a thing where it s set into the door as more difficult to access.

Went with the Yale 3 star ones here.

Where I am, housebreaking is not too common, and if serious people wanted to get in they could probably use a sledgehammer without anyone noticing.
So slight upgrades of anti-this and anti-that are a bit silly.

I bought a pair of Yale kitemarked keyed alike locks from either ebay or Amazon I forget which.
I did get shorter cylinders which don't stick out offering a nice grip for a wrench, unlike the originals.

There are a few sellers on ebay offering keying-alike services and extra keys at sensible prices.

Keyed alike is great, until you lose one front door key and need to change several cylinders.
For that reason, I didn't bother having the other doors keyed alike, we've got a kitchen door, a patio door and a deadlock on the garage as well as front and back doors!

You can also get euro cylinder deadlocks for gates and sheds, including some 'long throw' models which shoot the bolt further.

Around me in Cheshire, it’s fairly common to see locks snapped on patio doors to get access to car keys so I went for Ultion on all doors when I moved into this place.
