I bought a Cube Stereo Hybrid HPC SLX 800 (snappy title) in January. Soon afterwards it went back to the dealer due to a severe creaking noise which they diagnosed as the bolt connecting the rear shock to the yoke arm. They re-greased it and that seemed to do the trick up until recently when the noise reoccurred.

I decided I’d attempt to sort it myself but upon closer inspection I found that the top end of the rear shock was actually touching either side of the mounting bracket and it had caused paint to chip away. My worry now is that being a carbon frame, this could be putting pressure/shock through the frame in a way it won’t be designed for. It will continue to damage the frame each time I use it and who can say if it will increase the likelihood of the shock mount failing at some inopportune moment?

I found another forum where people are reporting the same issue with this bike. I dont want to replace it but equally I want to know it will remain safe to ride under normal circumstances. I have contacted the shop and I’m awaiting a response.

Has anyone else encountered this, where do I stand if the bike is faulty?

That s a bit rubbish.

If out of warranty I would be taking a dremel to one or both of the parts and creating a tiny bit of clearance.

I am sure the shock has a bit of meat on it at that point that could be shaved off….you shouldn’t have to but fortune will favour the brave….I expect.

Was that model sold with different shocks depending on spec level?

You may find that the a different shock has a slightly longer tube.

Whatever shock that is the tolerances are far too tight. I have the Stereo Hybrid One55 as below, a very similar carbon frame and there is plenty of clearance around the shock mount. I think I'd change the shock rather than attempt to grind clearance but if that's a design/build issue then surely Cube bears responsibility, warranty or not.

Yeah there are several specs available. Mine is sort of lower-mid range

Looking at yours, the shock appears to be mounted the other way round to mine, the the main body towards the rear of the bike. I wondered if mine could also be mounted the other way round. All of the official pictures of my bike however, show it fitted the way it is on mine.

If it's this one it may be possible to reverse it perhaps using different mounting hardware/spacers. The U bracket mount at the rear pivot is much slimmer than the carbon frame mount so there ought to be more clearance.

Is it possible that there is an eccentric bush in the head of the shock that can be adjusted to increase clearance?

With the same concrete Cube saddle no doubt! Binned mine for a Madison Flux.

I’ve contacted the shop but have been told Cube are on reduced hours I’ve the summer and it might be 10 days before they get a response!

Can you mount the shock upside down or swap sides?
