So, thought it would be a simple thing to buy, but of course there is a whole world out there on everything, and now im trying to understand preamp and gain

Could someone explain the basics to me as logically as possible with min waffle, what I need, whats not necessary, what extra (software) I might want get, , can I plug it into the Mac and record straight into davinchi?

Note at the moment im looking at buying a Shure SM7B, good? bad? stupid?

Good mic, but my guess is it's probably the wrong one if you're asking and it's for a Youtube voiceover. I'd have thought you'd be better off with just a Blue Yeti or the MV7+ if you want a Shure.
