Looks like it could actually be quite good

I think the first one was grossly over-rated so fingers crossed.

Agreed, totally baffling the popularity of the first one, the whole faux documentary unfunny forced Rob Reiner interview stuff was complete rubbish.

Always came across to me as a group of actors who wanted to show off their average guitar skills (though I know Michael McKean can sing properly) and wanted to take the pee out of real rockstars who were getting all the chicks.

And I have a fantastic sense of humour.

Comic Strip Bad News was far funnier.

A lot of it is showbiz 'in jokes'.

I think it's an almost perfect film. There are so many quotable and genuinely classic moments. The improvised acting is inspired, the timing is painfully perfect, and the musical material and performance are enormously better than might have been expected or really needed to be.

I've spent my adult life as a working musician, and that film still gets quoted multiple times per week, even 40 years later.

'The Difficult Second Album' springs to mind.

Personally I thought the first film was just brilliant in every way, but having seen the trailer for the new offering, I have an uneasy feeling this one could be pretty awful.
I really hope I'm wrong, but....

I had similar concerns when it was announced. My view is that it can't reasonably be expected to come close to the original, but with the talent of the people involved, it will almost certainly produce a handful of brilliant moments.

As usual opinions will vary.
On the strength of the first one I will not be watching the new version.

I gave it the benefit of the doubt and watched it again fairly recently. I still found the funny bits too far apart & not funny enough.

Agreed, I wondered if all the posters who thought it looked good had seen a different trailer to me.

I really, really hope this isn’t a disappointment.

Alongside The Rutles, the original is, for my money, the funniest musical satire of all time. Wonderfully silly, endlessly quotable, but best of all, so impeccably observed.

I hope it isn’t too ‘aware’ of itself, if you know what I mean. The celeb cameos worry me a bit — if it’s in any way chummy, knowing, celebratory or self referential I think it’ll be a disaster.

Fingers crossed it sticks to the original formula.

It will be appalling. These remakes/delayed sequels after decades always are. Remember Trainspotting 2?

Jonathan Miller described comic magic as vapour.

It disperses and drifts off into the distance with no way of capturing it again.

This certainly has that feel, but I'll give it a whirl anyway.

BBC iPlayer's volume control goes up to 11, as a homage to the first film!
