355 oil consumption

Hi all,
Just wondering what is normal oil consumption on 355's and what oil people tend to use

From memory the owners manual says 'up to 1 litre per 1k miles or kms' I can't remember which although that seems excessive imo.

A couple of reference points from my leggy 68k miler

2,500 miles around Europe consumed 750ml and included lots of fast autobahn / autoroute, back road thrashing
1,500 miles Le Mans classic consumed 250ml and a mixture of autoroutes, back road thrashing

I use the factory recommended Shell Helix tho' I read some of our American cousins use a slightly heavier oil mix

Be very careful on the fill procedure - easy to overfill & cause damage

Great - thanks for the replies. Will be checking later today - just need to get some oven gloves as it gets hot under the bonnet!

Thanks for your advice guys - no oil used over 1200 miles - a combination of gentle ish driving and some more spirited driving as well.
