Cayenne or Infiniti FX
Discussion
I'm after a new daily. Have 3 growing kids, eldest 14. Do no more than 4k miles a year. I've always preferred to go for non mainstream options. Really like the look of 957 3.6 Cayenne and just recently discovered 3.7 and 5.0 Infiniti variants. Anyone have any experience of either and any recommendations? Budget around £7k.
They're pretty much bulletproof The parts are easy to source (autodoc etc) you can add android auto/carplay DAB easily although it's not cheap it works well:

Some suspension parts are 48hr rather than 24hr friends & family have pretty much every model & they're proving robust & reliable.
S Premium is the top spec so you'll have 360 cameras adaptive cruise etc:

I have owned both, although my Cayenne was a 2005 model, 4.5 V8 and was a money pit. As a comparison, including all costs for both:
Cayenne 4.5 V8 S from 1 Jan 2011 to 12 Feb 2017, total running costs excluding depreciation was £36,191.72. It averaged 14.91 mpg over the 58,615 miles travelled during that period.
Infiniti FX 3.0 D Premium S from 15 April 2017 to 22nd August 2024, total running costs including depreciation was £35,366.47. It averaged 24.87 mpg over the 59,292 miles travelled during that period.
Porsche V8 noise was fantastic, handling was great for such a large SUV, and it looked great with the Porsche Tequipement bodykit which was a circa £6K option.
Infiniti was better in every area other than the boot space and of course being a diesel although it was a good engine, I should have held out for the 5.0 V8 Petrol, but they were, and still are pretty rare. Infiniti quality, reliability, specification and uniqueness was fantastic and I kept the car for 11 months after replacing it with a Lexus RZ450E Takumi model.
We had three FX or QX70 s in the family until recently, my dad still has one and I cannot recommend them highly enough. Great value for money, and I was truly gutted when Infiniti pulled out of Europe as my local dealer was on a par with Lexus too.

The budget is fine for a 3.6 IMO. This would be my pick of the ones for sale currently. Decent spec and has had a few quid spent on it recently.

Regarding rust, generally they are good. Rear subframes can get crusty and front wings can rust at the bottom if there's a build up of debris behind the panel.
