Picked my GT up from Martins (replaced intercooler due to a split in the heat exchanger), gave back the "S" that they had kindly loaned me. Interesting to make the comparison between the two, and now I think changing the springs to Life110 would make my ideal car. The GT now has over 1k on it so I took the opportunity of stretching the (self imposed) rev limit to 5k rpm manually through the gearbox, and all I can say is WOW. Only car I can really compare acceleration to it to is my old TVR Sagaris but the GT did not have the TVR's unnerving feature of the bonnet trying to leave the car smile.

I've only managed a pathetic 350 miles in 7 weeks, however its been interesting to note some changes over that mileage.

The first is in sport mode (bearing in mind I'm nowhere near full throttle and not over 3.5k due to running in) the car seems to have gained a slightly more hard edged growl and slightly louder pops and bangs then when I first picked it up.

The second is (I assume due to the engine loosening up a bit) the engine seems a bit more responsive and smooth. Not massive difference and could be placebo but I'm sure I'm not imagining it.

I'm going to start opening mine up a bit more from 600 miles and carry out an engine oil change, it cant hurt and I'm sure I've read somewhere that metal contaminants in the oil rise sharply in the first 500 miles and then taper off.

PS OP, glad you didnt have to have your engine out in the end!

The owner's manual says "avoid sporty driving until 1864 miles" although I've no idea what "sporty driving" is. So I'm taking the revs up incrementally, not labouring the engine, not keeping at constant revs.

When I had a company car (my company) I drove it like I stole it from day 1 (my record was Southampton to Liverpool 3hrs 20mins). It done 96000 miles in 3 years and it never missed a beat, only routine servicing and tyres. Used no oil between services. So who knows if "running in" is even required?
I'm planning on an oil change soon and sending the sample for analysis, just to see what is actually in the oil after 1200 odd miles if anything at all..

Please report back on the analysis, if you wouldn’t mind.

Torque (labouring the engine) is far more damaging than revs. Just get on with it.

My plan was to post the analysis report on here for information. I've read a lot on "running in" and have seen convincing arguments from both camps. I would have thought that an oil change \ analysis on a lightly used engine (run in according to manufacturers statement) would show up some wear material(s). As an engineer by profession I'm very curious and have not really been in a position to try this. We shall see.

I wasn't able to change the oil after the first 1000km (~600miles) because the service is 300kms away and I couldn't find the time to go there. I was so careful during running-in and still avoiding "sporty driving" because I only reached 2500kms recently.

In October I've my annual service and the oil will be changed. I'm planning to take a sample and send it for analysis. Do we have a set of benchmark values or factory provided data? In short, what is normal?

I dont have a benchmark of "new" oil but the sample will analyse "wear metals" as shown on a sample report of my previous 911.

Thank you very much for sharing your analysis report. At least it would give me a score to compare with.

Here's mine from a few years ago. I think fuel dilution is after doing a couple of track days driving

Thank you jont-.

Levels on your report card are lower than L1OFF's 911.

I know there're PH members here who are also following French Alpine forums. Do you remember any thread/post about oil analysis?

Sorry folks, but what is the benefit of such oil analyses?
Do you change your driving style if the metal wear exceeds xx ppm ?
Or can you claim anythin to Alpine, if the fuel dilution exceeds xx % ?
I would like to understand the sense behind knowing the details of my oil.
Thank you!

It is helpful to understand if some components are experiencing more wear or there's something wrong with the combustion cycle. So you can replace worn components before they cause issues. If you have continuous analysis you can see the trend and take other measures. You can end up using the oil for a longer period.

1st oil change completed 28\07 (1258 miles) so should be past the "running in" stage. Oil sample sent off to Millers for testing. Booked in locally for the Life110 geo settings. My usual local said they couldn't do the alignment as they are a "German car" specialist (I used them previously for the 911). Weird.
