Will the 991.2 GT3 be remembered as a great GT car?
Discussion
Its a great one… especially if you have a manual as it marks a return to manual for Porsche… and the last of the traditional layout.
992 is the ultimate technical incarnation of the GT3 though… all of the dynamic traits refined almost to make it too good.
The best porsche is the one you drive.

It seems so to me. I'm looking for a 991.2 manual GT3 as we speak and they already seem to be a little dearer than the PDK and to my mind captures the purity of a GT car, but either gearbox feels to me like it's a great GT car.
So a yes from me.
(Waiver: having only ever driven a 996 GT3 and a very long term 996 GT2 owner for experience so far)

Took delivery of my manual 991.2 GT3 in May 2018…I still own it. I was one of those daft people who could have specced the Touring and didn’t…mine is Lava Orange with a Wing. Would I use my car more as a daily if it was a silver Touring ? Yes. But I still love the car and at the time I wanted the full GT3 experience…hence the colour.
Since the 991.2 was introduced with “that” engine the engine spec in terms of power output has barely changed…but what has changed in that engine’s soul has been neutered by particulate filters. The sound of a sports car is an emotive thing and clearly there are people will to spend five figure sums liberating the best noise they can from their car. So surely the one that sounds best from the factory is the best car ?
Biggest difference is the front end which on track undoubtedly gives the 992 an edge…people with more knowledge about these things than me (Center Gravity) say the 991.2 is the better road car.
Biggest challenge with the 992 for me is the bulk of the design…however big the wing you put on it there’s still a fat arse underneath it. 991.2 is a better looking car for me.

I think they are all great cars. The question is more which one will not be remembered as a great car imo.
In terms of values, I think the new ones are not rare enough and when those cars are 20 years old, the slightly better performance will not matter. It will be rarity, rawness and to a degree looks. They will never go as low as the 996 GT cars went (30k GBP bought one at some point from memory), but I think that is at least partly driven by CPI & even higher car price inflation.
I prefer how the 991 looks over the 992.
Values don't equate appreciation of how they drive imo and I think the most expensive GT car will be the 996.1 CS in 15 years (probably sooner than that).
Edit: Forgot about the 996 GT2 CS facelift with 483 hp, that will be the most expensive. It probably already is if you can find one for sale

Precisely the point I was heading to towards on the GT4 RS availability thread. Cars are not about money - they are about driving. Money is secondary aspect - people are confused.

I don't care what my 930 costs me, I talk about it because I like sharing what these things cost and what people need to expect if they take one on, but for me the value I get out of it outweighs the cost of it by miles, even though I'm into it for over £200k, so the cost is secondary to the pleasure of ownership.
But I don't just have one car, I have seven currently and if I'm only keeping a car for a year or two then I think about the cost of ownership, maybe I've been in business too long but regardless of what's in my bank I can't just totally switch off the financial considerations unless it's a dream car where the money really doesn't matter, like the aforementioned 930.
If you really do never ever consider the cost of ownership of anything then you're a consumerists wet dream, I'll happily sell you loads of stuff if money doesn't matter to you.
