Im currently being out smarted by an eight year old...

He has an old phone that has Kids YouTube, Netflix and some other kid friendly apps. His signal gets stopped at 6pm.

Annoyingly he has worked out how to download things and it works without signal.

Things are downloaded on his phone and dont appear on our other devices. Annoyingly when I got to his profile on my phone it shows that downloads are off.

Does anyone know how to stop all downloads from a kids account? Or can you put a code on to download?

Thanks smile

As well as stopping the signal, remove the device at 6pm as well.

We do the same with our 15 yr old son at 10pm. We just get him to leave his phone outside his room at bedtime.

Thanks for the parenting advise but not what I asked.

You can't on netflix. There are no parental control on Netflix bar the age controls and you can't lock downloads per account, there's no parental control at that level as far as I'm aware.

Depending on the phone you should be managing it separately under iOS or Android so do it that way and lock the device at a certain time. Or take it off him. We do both.

Both parental controls will let you lock apps individually as well. That's the way to do it.

Fill up his phone with other data - no room for downloads.

Alternatively, ask him to stop doing it, or you'll remove the phone? Radical I know but, actions have consequences.

How are you blocking his "signal" Because if you are doing it correctly, then without a connection there is no way he can download anything.

Download before Wi-Fi goes off, watch after. Just like before a long car journey or flight.

Oh I like that idea! Might download some stuff on my profile that has a PIN...

Can't blame him for being sneaky at eight. When I was a little older I purchased my own WiFi dongle and used the neighbours WiFi that didn't have a password on when my parents turned the Internet off...

He also has SEN so things aren't as straight forward with him.

Times on WiFi app. As stated, he is downloading them during the day (and Netflix kindly auto downloads some shows...).

Our Netflix has a limit on number of devices that can have downloads on them. Add some other devices that he doesn't have access to, even if you don't watch the downloads. He won't then be able to add any downloads to his device. This might depend on which type of account you have though.

if you have family settings on Android you can lock his phone entirely to a schedule.

i.e instead of cutting wifi just lock the phone via family settings.

Assume same is possible on iphone.

That's the right solution. Because you haven't given an 8 year old unfettered access to a phone without parental controls set up, yeah?

Of course we haven't...he can get on Netflix (on his profile), kids YouTube which is looked at daily to make sure the content is suitable and some kids educational app by the BBC.

Hes not there bashing one out on Pornhub yet.

On iPhone you can certainly allow only certain apps and not others at specified times.

Best answer here to be honest.
