I honestly can't believe it.

I took out a loan for x amount ,paid of some exsisting loans and the 25k that was left put into my bank from the loan company.

so I had a few grand in there already ,and to be honest me and my wife get paid around 4.5k per month in the bank.

Firstly, they said I can only get 10k per day, they can order it until tommorow so I have to wait 2 days for the first 10,then another 10 then another 5,so I have to wait 4 days for MY money.

Then I get a phone call at home. The bank wants me to prove where I got the 25k from !! , the loan company hasnt sent me specific details SINCE the money come through ( today ) , all I have is a letter saying ' you have been succesful in applying blah blah '.So I have to take this letter in ( which means NOTHING ) and then they will consider what to do,FFS.

Its the halifax I'm with,is this normal behaviour from a bank ??? , I'm so pi**ed of at them.If they ever charge you for something, they just take the money, but cant give me my fu**in money.

a few years ago i had a call from a supplier saying i had bounced a cheque on them. strange i thought, i had just sold a property and the money was sitting in my business account until i moved it. i called the bank and said why have you bounced a cheque on me when you have over 60k in that account. the reply was that i had not told them what i wanted to do with my money! needless to say i am no longer with said bank.

this is very strange.

credits to current accounts are generally shown with a trace from whence it came. eg.. j.smith builders/salary or egg cashback etc...shirley the tag from the 25k has acme loan company attached to it?

It says on my online statement from ' chaps ' , doesnt mean much to them, but I feel it doesnt matter, the bank is deciding if I should get my money or not.Even if it WAS money from selling drugs / slaves / guns , its still MINE.

Hang on, don't blame the Bank this time.

Anti Money Laundering law from Mr Bliar is the reason for this.

I didnt think individual branches hold a lot of cash which I assume is what you are after.

If you used a cheque I dont think that would be a problem

More likely it's the Halifax's interpretation of the new law..

I paid a largish Cheque into Barclays fairly recently and the girl behind the counter was embarrassed at having to ask me where it had come from. Once i told her, the cheque was processed normally, no evidence of the origin of the cheque was needed.

It's the bank's interpretation of the law..... Nat West let me have £30K+ cash the other week with just 24 hours notice.

Change banks and be done with it

A friend of mine, after going into the branch to draw 5k in cash, was asked why he needed it. Completely straight faced, and loud enough for other customers to hear, he replied, "I happy to enjoy very high class prostitues."

Needless to say, he's never been asked again.

Something in the pattern of your financial transactions has been flagged as possible money laundering, meaning the compliance folks are required to check it out. You could ignore the request and change banks, but be aware that banks are required to file suspicious activity reports with NCIS (www.ncis.co.uk/)

This money laundering nonsense is typical. Law abiding folk are inconvenienced, and the crims just do it a different way!

(Its a bit like the number plate legislation, easy to defeat if you know how!)

If you were faced with potential criminal charges if it was later determined that you had reasonable grounds for knowing or suspecting that something was amiss, and you didn't act, wouldn't you take it seriously? (I know you were talking about financial gain, but that isn't the only thing they are thinking of.)

Have a read of this pdf document which is guidance to financial organisations.

the banks usually don't want to p!ss off high net worth customers whose financial activities are more varied than average
