BMW previews latest M2 M Performance Parts

Course it looks crazier - but this round of upgrades is promising a proper boost in ability as well

While there’s no denying the popularity, it’s hard to take some of the BMW M Performance Parts seriously when they include silly spoilers for X3s and carbon mirror caps for an i5 Touring. This, on the other hand, looks much more like it. Though not available yet, BMW is prepping an extensive range of M Performance Parts for the latest M2. Teased on Instagram, it’s said to be a ‘street legal track day package.’

Very promising, and eminently logical. BMW has been making an M2 for almost 10 years, and now there’s surely not a track day pitlane in the country that doesn’t feature a straight-six 2 Series of some kind in it. Probably a modified one, in fact, a whole heap of M specialists able to offer up chassis, powertrain and brake improvements to make the most of a great base package. Having offered up piecemeal upgrades through the M Performance catalogue over the years, BMW now looks to be going all in on offering a Clubsport-style M2. Hopefully it arrives in time for the manual gearbox to be around.

Exact details haven’t been released yet, however there’s plenty to take from the Sao Paulo Yellow concept. Everywhere that’s camouflaged, basically, from touring car-spec spoiler to the snow plough up front. There’s even a natty red tow rope next to the numberplate, because no track car could possibly make do with the regular tow hook. The fact that the whole front end is covered up suggests that a significantly different look is coming, perhaps with additional carbon fibre or venting. The engine that sits under that bonnet, the 3.0-litre S58, seems unlikely to produce much more power for an MPP upgrade, given the standard car is 480hp strong - and the much more expensive CS only has 50hp more. That being said, given that engine seems to produce a few extra horsepower with some kind words whispered into its intake, 500hp shouldn’t be ruled out.

And check out the tyres. Sat on what looks like a new design of wheel is Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS rubber, which is about as close to a slick as a homologated road tyre gets. Pirelli says the RS is designed ‘for hypercars and supercars to primarily maximise dry performance on track through an ultra low profile and extreme new asymmetric tread pattern which provides high grip, excellent dry braking and optimal balance in dry handling, while maintaining consistency and durability.’ It’s extreme, that’s for sure. Those we can find for sale currently are £600 - each. In case any further deterrent was required for not skidding around a track day…

BMW says the M Performance Parts overhaul is currently at the Nurburgring (where else?), being pushed to the limit to ‘deliver pure performance’. There’s a #MadeToExpress hashtag and some strange replies from BMW M in the comments that must be AI, naturally. They reckon on the kit being launched in 2026. So plenty of time to prepare a shocked face for the price.

In the meantime, how about an M2 track car for the rest of the 2025 season? Modified F87s are available from less than £30k now; this one at £35k looks ace, with Nitron suspension, AP Racing brakes, Recaros and a BMW Motorsport rear wing. For those who are very serious, this Competition is less than £40k but comes with more than 500hp, Intrax suspension, a half cage and Sparco seats. Sadly not yellow, though…

Are those tyres lethal in the wet then? Knowing nothing about track focused tyres other than F1 it sounds like if you were out in the UK driving you would be screwed daily!

I have Michelin Sport Cup 2’s on my 981 GT4, they are a semi slick track day tyre. They were on the car when bought it, previously enjoyed. I was a little apprehensive using the car in a 5hr drive home in heavy rain. It was fine. Obviously took it easy and was mindful of standing water. Basically don’t do anything stupid as more likely to aquaplane. All that being said, I don’t track the car they will be changed out for a proper road biased tyre when the time comes.

The industrial design of the wing uprights will probably appeal to some (it seems quite in keeping with the rest of the design), but I feel like these parts often let down the look of a car - especially in a metal finish. The Alpine A110 R being one that really sticks in my mind.

Why not just "wrap" the upright in carbon and give it more of a vertical stabiliser type look? Bound to be better looking and performing.

I've got semi slick road legal tyres (Nankang) on my Mini Track Car and whilst they do have less grip in the wet and I wouldn't want to drive on them daily they are still useable and as long as you as a driver are aware they are there it's not the end of the world.

I could be wrong but I don't think those are new wheels, they are 827m but with a dual tone effect rather than black or bronze

All these track day parts... I wonder if BMW will honour any warranty claims resulting from a failure/fault on a track day? I recall they didn't used to.

Not a fan of these rear wings, particularly on a coupe like the M2. Each to his own, but not a good look, at least to me.

I think they’re the black ones, lighting is making them look polished at some angles

I mean: If you've got a fleet of cars: Go ahead and spec the wing. Otherwise: too boy racer.

If not on a coupe like the M2 then what would it be for? A couple like a GT3 RS? Other track focused coupes use those type of wings do they not?

Yes, and the rear wing on other coupes like a GT3 do look better for it. I’m just saying that on the M2 (whether F87 or G87), it just looks wrong.

The spoiler looks a bit OTT to me....no doubt the aesthetics won't be improved by most of the parts. I'm sure BMW will still manage to sell loads of it.

Mine has more subtle M Performance Carbon, 827m CS Alloys with M adjustable suspension and spacers. I think the rear wing would be too OTT for me.

A brand like BMW could design a large wing -- like this one -- that collapses neatly into the boot lid.

The engineering would add notably to the cost of the car. The result, however, would be more than a party trick.

When unveiled, the car would receive instant publicity and for quite some time. Videos on social media, articles about the Janus-faced coupe ready for both road and track.

While the idea of a retractable lip spoiler is old hat, a mass-market version of this veritable pantograph would be quite an achievement. It's a full-sized and fully-functional wing that delivers bags of downforce, yet manages to fold away into nothingness.

Visit that important client on Wednesday (wing retracted). Meet the lads for coffee on the Saturday (wing winged). biggrin

Ah.. yes, could well be the case!

The black ones are good value at £2k for a set from Cotswold BMW.

It does looks like my CS 827m wheel to me but with a two tone black finish..?

I'm wondering about 1063m painted Gold or Bronze to almost match the 3.0 CSL 963m centre locking alloys (£5k each!)
