I m looking to buy an Omega but I m not sure which one to go for. I quite like the Planet Ocean. But I ve seen a RailMaster on Watch Finder. Budget is around £3500. Which one would likely hold its value best?

I have this, and I am disappointed to see they can be had for less than £3,500 pre-owned. frown

Surely you pick the one you like most within your price range?

Had this for 15 years and still love it, love my speedy pro too but just get the one you want not necessarily the one that’s the best investment.

Why disappointed?

Do you not love it and/or are flipping watches for profit? tongue out

Because it's worth less than I paid for it.

Buy what you like and will suit your tastes - is it going to be your only watch or do you have a collection?

As a GADA watch then I would go for this one

https://www.watchfinder.co.uk/Omega/Aqua%20Terra%2...

I regret not buying one of these back in 2010 when they weren’t as expensive as they are now. I had limited funds so ended up with a quartz Aqua Terra which is still a fantastic watch.

What's the desire for an Omega specifically, out of interest ? Lots of other brands in that sort of price range that would offer you an incredible watch, many of which would be quite a bit more unique / rarer accordingly. Omega seem to have made a thing of releasing 37 millions variants in the past few years that have seemingly sullied the name a little (at least for me anyway). Throw enough s*** and something will stick, although, it doesn't help with resale values if you'd rather prices didn't crash (as some have highlighted already).

Some absolutely lovely Tudors, Grand Seikos and even some vintage rolex's in that sort of price range. I would also potentially be looking at IWC, and you may even be able to sneak an older Blancpain in for that sort of money.

But isn't that pretty standard for most things in this world?

Any Omega price rise is likely to be wiped out by dealer margin. The prices have not gone up that rapidly, bar some weird niche models like the Snoopy.

If a watch is on for GBP3,500, WF probably paid 2,000 - 2,500 for it. Therefore as soon as you buy the watch you are losing money.

I've had 3 Omegas - SM PO, Moonwatch and Speedy broad Arrow

I broke even on all of them - I bought from cheaper dealers (not WF) and sold each to WF (because of locality). Each watch I owned for a few years where prices were rising. In a softer market I would have lost money on them.

I would recommend Chrono 24 over WF, you can find an independent shop without WFs sizeable mark up and probably save 10 - 15%.

Don't be under any illusions for Omega as a good investment. Buy the one you like, decent value held is a bonus really.

Buy what you like. Wear it, scratch it, drop it, dog ear the manual reading through it.

Like cars, never pretend this stuff is an investment in anything except your enjoyment of it for its intended purpose.

For me, a choice of Omega would be either a Speedy Pro moonwatch or FOIS. I'd like it if they did the Pro as a sapphire sandwich but with the face sapphire being the Hesalite-like profile of the FOIS, but not sure if that's likely to come to pass.
