Just seen on FB (can’t remember what page) that the police have banned cycling mikey from reporting incidents.
I know he’s technically ‘right’ but still think he’s a top class bellend the way he goes about his business and loves to cause an scene with the ‘protection’ of his camera, I think he’s been quite lucky so far not to meet one of the many lunatics about on the roads.
I wonder how he’ll fill his time now…

What's the source for this? Sounds like it's a repeated rumor to me.

The man himself says it's not true: https://x.com/MikeyCycling/status/1942835562915811...

Don’t watch his videos personally, so hopefully less views lately.

I've only seen him catch people breaking the law. e.g. using a phone while driving / staing in traffic or blatantly driving on the wrong side of the road to skip a tailback.

Why does he get such hateful comments when he's ticking off a few law breakers who are being anti-social?

I don't have particularly strong views on him, but it really is astonishing (and worrying) what people will read on Facebook and take as gospel. Completely mad really.

I’d didn’t it was fact I said I saw it. It was a news page not a random person, not that the news tells any truths tbf.

I'm not sure exactly how Police could ban him from reporting incidents

He clearly devotes his life to looking for trouble and enjoys making a misery of others lives, so regardless of his reasons, this outcome is ok with me. He's a thoroughly unpleasant little st. And yes, I am aware of his " reasons " for what he does. He doesn't have the demeanour to encourage empathy, and nothing about him derives any sympathy from me.

He started out well meaning and filming the more egregious infractions but it seems that as his profile grew he seemed to go out his way to find trouble and get in altercations that were totally avoidable.

What’s worse is that he seems to have spawned a number of other cycle nazis who don’t seem to be able to go for a single bike ride without a “OMG I nearly died!” when a lorry turns left 500m in front of them or they themselves putting themselves into dangerous situations because they feel they’re in the right just for clicks and comments.

Not against reporting poor behaviour but it’s seemingly now just engineering a situation just for clicks.

Exactly, how would that work? It wouldn't be great publicity for plod either.

Looks like Dom Joly either made it up or he has been instrumental in helping to spread this 'news'...

Oh right a news page on facebook, that’s totally different to a random person.

You realise all main stream news channels like the BBC etc have FB profiles right? Or are you still a newspaper thrown on the lawn man?

Well said. His whiney, self-righteous attitude really grates with me..

How he’s never been belted (or worse) is very surprising. Only a matter of time before he meets the wrong person I suspect.

Another Kenneth Noye for example.

I do deplore self-appointed vigilante busybodies who mind other people's business to pump up their personal self-righteousness.

How would they ban someone from sending in a clip? Think about it. Confiscate all his cameras?

The obvious answer is that they just ignore/delete/bin his reports. I suspect the word 'ban' was just used for a better headline.

I don't agree with his youtube channel, but he does get law breaking drivers to pay a penalty, so that is good and maybe he makes people aware of why sitting in traffic with your mobile phone in your hand is illegal. But he is not a vigilante, he does not punish the lawbreaker. There is a difference and being Pistonheads, pedantry matters.

Simply ban him from publishing his videos.

He can still report stuff as much as he likes, but if a picture, video, or other account of what he reported surfaces, anywhere, at any time, the punishment/fine/points are immediately reversed, and he has to publish a public apology to the person he reported and take the punishment himself.

If his motivation is road safety, this won't affect him in the slightest.
