Dealer did not (although he claims to have) send of the V5c when I bought my last car. I did have a green slip but have put it somewhere safe, it turns out to be really safe!
So neend to do a change of ownership V62, discover that I have to fill in a form and physically post it, no problems - only cheques or postal orders only!!!!!

No cheque book so have to go to the Post Office to get a PO. £25 PO please - that will be £28.33 please - WTF!

Why do you need a physical form ?
I've always done it online

Because it has not been changed into my name - change of ownership, address etc has to be done by post apparently. Duplicts can be done online.

You do it online as if you're the seller, think you need the number off the v5c though

I thought one could pay cash over the counter for that service?

You may also need to fill in this form if you only have the green new keeper slip. If you do not have a V5C or the green new keeper slip you will need to fill in this form and pay a fee. You can pay by cash, direct debit, debit card, credit card, cheque or postal order (made out to Post Office Ltd.), Post Office budget card or by traveller s cheques (in pounds sterling).

I read this as well - but with a V62 change of log book must be posted (with a cheque or Postal Order)

Had to get one last year when I applied for my daughters driving licence. I was amazed you couldn't just pay online, amazed that postal orders were still a thing, and even more amazed when they charged me for one.

Cost me £100.25 for a £90 PO last week IIRC. Ridiculous.

I had to apply for a new V5 three weeks ago for a motorbike I bought through Copart. I didn’t realise postal orders still existed, but a £25 fee quickly becomes £30 when you factor in the cost of a first class stamp. It’s ridiculous that it can’t be done online.

If you don’t get the V5 in four weeks you have a two week window to call them to follow up before you lose the fee.
