I just spent ages searching through old PH threads looking for a watch picture I seem to remember on here. It was supposedly made by the ultimate horologist. It was rather plain and contemporary in steel, but with a very intricate movement visable through the front face. I seem to recall it was circa £180k. Anyone remeber this or have a link? Just want to show a mate at work how cool this thing was, as a work of art as much as anything. Thanks...

I know who you mean and recall the thread.

Produces a tiny number of watches and is revered by all watch fans, normal name too.

Stuart something or other?

I am sure AlexKP or the like will be along in a mo though.

Was it a George Daniels ?
Chap is a master horologist, and something of a petrolhead to boot.

...and I'm here Plotloss....

Some of the most stunning examples of watch making are by a few of the Swiss Manufactures (correct spelling) such as Patek Phillipe, Blancpain and Ulysse Nardin.

Ulysse Nardin have a wristwatch with tiny automata of figures from Greek Mythology that is around the 300-400k mark IIRC. Patek make a stunning wristwatch that marks solar time with a moving solar system at around the 100k.

Blancpain, however, make a fairly plain universal time wristwatch with alarms (a minute repeater) that comes in at a cool £750k.

None of these watches are diamond set or jewel encrusted.

When I get home I'll try to find some pics and some more info.

Yes - George Daniels is generally regarded as the world's greatest living horologist, and he has made only a couple of dozen masterpieces in his lifetime so far.

Here is more:

Incidentally, although he is the inventor of the co-axial escapement, Omega have brought it to market in their new Planet Ocean range IIRC.

George Daniels is indeed an absolute petrolhead with a fabulous collection including a GP Itala, Alfa 8C, various Bentleys (blown and unblown) amongst several others...

Sorry, but other than as an investment I wouldn't pay £20 for one of those to wear!

Another vote for George Daniels, probably the worlds finest. Didnt he invent the current ultimate movement in the sixties? licenced it to Omegas and all and sundry. Spoken to him a few times at Bentley meets, seem to remember him describing someones Rolex as that tractor on your wrist.
