There are often lots of comments on here criticising SUVs for example, so what is your favourite car bodystyle?

Is it a hatchback/saloon/estate/suv/coupe or convertible/roadster?

For me personally I'd probably say coupe I think, but what's yours?

I'm an absolute sucker for a fast estate, something with a bit of meatiness to how it looks but not "in yer face".

I prefer the traditional coupé, saloon and estate body styles. Probably in that order!

I've never liked SUVs or crossovers to be honest.

Cabriolet/ convertible (ideally two seat) You just can’t beat open top motoring

Coupe in second

Estate in third

Most pleasing: A nicely balanced, wedge shaped mid engined sports/super car like a Ferrari 348/355 or Lamborghini Huracan.

Close second: A coupé like a BMW F32 4 Series.

Basically elegant and athletic while not excessively muscular looking cars.

I prefer an estate but out of the 20+ cars I’ve owned I’ve only had 1.

Mid-sized 5-door hatchback like every car I've owned in the last 40 years except an Audi A4 1.8T Sport (4-door saloon) for 6 months in 2002/2003.

3 box saloon or coupe for me

I do like a wagon but they’ve always been tools for the task

Saloon.

Engine at the front, four doors in the middle, rear wheel drive.

Honourable mention for the MPV which has now completely disappeared from manufacturers catalogues.

Lots of space for passengers and luggage.
High seating position, plenty of glass and therefore brilliant visibility.
Built on the floor pans of existing cars so often drive quite well

Peak car design.

Estates tend to be more classic and elegant.

Can't stand the top hat cars - busslebutt coupe SUV thrones!

All depends.

If just me driving, and it's warm, then convertible.

If its me and the the family, then an SUV for its masses of space and 4wd if a proper suv. On motorway a higher up driving position is a massive advantage so imo they're more useful, generally better looking and less grandad than an estate.

Wouldn't ever own a crossover though, pointless things.

I'd forget about Vans, and I always enjoy driving those. If I had the money/space, then I'd definitely love one for sure.

Not a fan of SUVs then? biggrin

I've always preferred hatchbacks. Saloons just look stupid to me and coupe's always lack headroom. On a hot day I want shade and air-conditioning so cabriolets are out too.

However now I have a bad back I find a more upright driving position a lot more comfortable so have just ordered an SUV. Much as I hate the name SUV I don't have any real issue with the body style, having learned to drive in a Landrover 110, but they are a compromise for road use, being heavier and taller than other vehicles, but in my case that's a compromise I'm happy to make for the additional comfort.

I like that the GTO (?) has that lovely curved line from the bonnet, across the base of the windows, to the boot. But the bottom one (Honda?) is really messed up in my eyes by the boot being higher than that line. It would look so much better if the book was a couple of inches lower, or the window line sloped up a bit.

Not really.
I get traditional 4x4s have a purpose (off roading etc) just don't get them. Too tall, too wide and just too big.

For me, I prefer the traditional 4 door saloon. I currently have a 4x4 (you could hardly call it an SUV - nothing remotely sporty about it! - in fact on the V5 it says "estate"), so can see the practicality benefits, especially for the amount of crap I can get in it. My next car will probably be a blend of the two and be some sort of fast estate. I'm starting to resent the amount I spend on tax and fuel for the aforementioned 4x4, and if I'm paying that amount I might as well have something fast!!
