San Sebastian is expensive any time of the year, but as you’ve discovered, stupidly so in August. We stayed outside the centre and took the train in, but if you want walking distance, I doubt you’ll find any reasonable prices.
Obviously what is “reasonable” and what is “stupidly expensive” will vary depending on your pov

Can anyone recommend a nice but not stupid priced hotel within walking distance of the old town.
It s for 4 nights in August
Good safe parking is a must.
I have been looking at this one already
Hotel Barceló Costa Vasca
Thanks
I assume you're looking for August 2026?It s for 4 nights in August

Hotel Sansebay - it has it's own underground car park accessed via a lift. If you have a huge car it won't fit, but a big car will.
Rooms are very nice and comfortable, some have great views over the Concha beach. I think the formal classification is 2*, but that's more down to the fact that there's no restaurant and no-one on reception overnight rather than the standard of the rooms.
It's 110 metres (2 mins walk) from Atari, which is on the edge of the old town.

August 2025, ended up booking Hotel Barceló Costa Vasca and paying an extra €80.00 for 4 days parking as everywhere was getting full.Hotel Sansebay - it has it's own underground car park accessed via a lift. If you have a huge car it won't fit, but a big car will.

I now need to organise hotels or Airb&b up the west coast of France for the following weeks trip back to the Euro tunnel.
I also need to fill 3 days around the 15th August in the Sort area of Catalonia on the N260. Struggling to find somewhere with decent parking the ground clearance on my car isn’t the best.

However La Vella Farga is one of the nicest hotels we’ve ever stayed in and 45 minutes away.
Cognac is nice on way back, Chais Monet and Spa - wonderful place, when we visited Porsche / Bugatti club of France were there. Magic place.
