Hi

I've got a Windows desktop that I am trying to see how to turn on a setting that allows a USB to be automatically detected.

Thanks

Presuming you mean USB drive, that should be default behaviour.

Is this a work desktop
Does work prevent USB devices from being connected? (Security Rule)

It should be recognised automatically, press "windows key" and "x", select "device manager" look in the "ports (com & lpt)", does anything show up when you plug it in?

Unless it's been disabled, the built in Defender tool is pretty good.

If it was me, I'd download the latest W11 Media Creation Tool, create a W11 USB and start from scratch. You don't know what sort of crap your previous employer left on there.
