Can anyone recommend a smart switch? I want one to wire into my home MEV so I can trigger the high power extract mode. Most of what I see on Amazon doesn’t appear certified and I question how safe they are.

Thanks

Do you need smart as in make it work from your phone or integration, or just be able to operate remotely via a switch?

If the latter, my electrician has used kinetic switches to great effect solving cottage type problems.

I've used both Shelly and Sonoff devices for this sort of thing.

The Quinetic stuff is excellent.

Yeah we have them in our living room to avoid having to run extra cables.

They're not "smart" in the normal sense though.

I've got a few Shelly devices for controlling power outlets, outside lights, and an extractor fan.

Although the Shelly app can control them via scenes (schedules), or directly from a phone/tablet, I've got them set up in Alexa and Home Assistant. Schedules, voice control, delay timers, etc.

Thanks all. I'm going to try Shelly and a humidity sensor with some automations. Hopefully all fairly simple.

I did look at the non-smart options but for me it's better if it's connected as I have a little of this going on already so it would join the wider system.

I'm not sure what you're planning to automate with, but FWIW I'm using Home Assistant to do the same thing.

Bathrooms all have Sonoff Zigbee temp/humidity sensor, and high humidity triggers the MVHR system to go into boost mode for 30 minutes (triggered via a Sonoff switch, but could obviously be anything).

Same here, I calculate the humidity difference between the bathroom and the hallway and have a couple of Sonoff ZBMini's that control the fans.

You'd need something like Home Assistant to do the calculations for that, which does need a bit of effort to set up and maintain, but if you're reasonably switched don with IT it's not difficult.

If you want to just run it on a humidity level then a hub like Samsung SmartThings or Hubitat can do it

If you just want it on a timer then use a wifi relay like Shelly or Tuya and an a phone app

If you have Alexa or Google home you can also use them as a hub and do voice control of a relay as well as timed or via your phone.
