Rain stopped play on the Ducati today, so very pleased that Thunderball is on. Not seen it for years, but omg, Connery was just awesome.
The script is brilliant, full of one liners ( Mind if my friend sits this one out, she’s just Dead “ ) a perfect cast, Guy Dolman was superb let alone Luciana Paluzzi, Claudine Auger ( Domino ) Martine Beswick, Adolpho Celi, Rik Van Nutter, Bernard Lee, Desmond Llewelyn and Lois Maxwell.

Fun fact for anyone interested - When I was 20/21 I worked in the Bahamas for a year. My boss owned the house in Thunderball (the one with the sharks in the pool). It was a very cool house.

Wicki says that a “ local millionaire couple “ called the Sullivans owned Palmyra. Was that your then boss ?
And how long after the film was made were you there ?

I just read about that, apparently he stunned everyone by how quickly he got out of that pool ! And Connery wasn’t afraid of anyone !

The 'cognoscenti' don't rate Thunderball, but I think it's probably my favourite Bond film (As a film, I love OHMSS too, but I don't subscribe to the revisionist view that Lazenby was anything but awful).

Good plot and loads of SCUBA diving stuff (on reflection, it's amazing I didn't start until I was in my 40s, as I've always found SCUBA diving fascinating, I just always figured it was something 'other people' did, like flying private planes - I knew I could, but never looked into it).

The final scenes where they're fighting on the Disco Volante at high speeds amongst the rocks is rather laughable though - Nothing that big would turn as quickly as the boat does in response to the wheel!

No, my boss was a guy called George Mosko. He owned a large construction company (among other interests).

This was in 1998/99.

It s one of my favourite Bonds too. Can t really understand the hatred for it amongst some Bond fans. Fair enough, the finale is a bit poor but the set up is excellent and Connery is on top form.

And you forgot Mollie Peters.

Come to think of it, ‘that’ scene is probably the reason for a lot people’’s dislike of the film.
