Outdoor CCTV Camera(s) to Icloud ( or NAS ) storage help
Discussion
Happy Saturday all.
Right, at the end of my tether with AMAZON, DHL, DPD, ( insert your favourite/ most hated courier here ) - unable to reverse around a corner and driving over the corner of my garden - inflicting damage on plants etc etc.
Tried to put up a little wooden type picket fence ( available at garden centres everywhere), and some soft stone type rocks (also available at said locations )
The incompotent take no regard and cause damage ( running into the hundreds each time ).
So - short of planting 30 or so Samuri Hari-Kari short swords to puncture their tyres. ( Actually the current Mrs Bistros preferred option ).
I'm leaning towards Outdoor CCTV cameras that can backup to the cloud or even a NAS - so I can send Amazon, Yodel, DPD, DHL etc etc - a lovely invoice for damages. I'm fed up having to fix this every bloody month.
Or should I just plump for black market C4, or TNT, or hunt down the drivers first born ( a la Liam Neeson from the Taken movies ) - or see if Vladimir takes note if the drivers are part time Ukrianian special forces and let him deal with them , or just work from home and get a sledgehammer and see how skulls crack, or crowdfund for identifying the drivers and getting sausages hammered into their lawns. Worst case- sell my £8 Million bitcoin and have John Wick or similar take the aforementioned drivers out.
Seriously though,
I understand that the drivers are under pressure to deliver to target times, but making a mess of Chez Bistros front garden every bloody month though is just not bloody on.
Fuming.
Virtual beers for most useful tech and also for comedic responses.

Blue iris is a app on Windows however it does take some configuration I’d suggest taking a look at some youtube videos and see if it’s for you.
You could consider a synology nas that has inbuilt software, though I think you might need licenses if you want 4 or more cameras.
Unif also provide a recorder & its own cameras though quit costly.
Then you have reolink, hkvission etc that provide nvr & cameras as a all in one solution.
The question is how adept are you at setting up & configurations as all will require some.
I’d also consider that 4K video stream to be the minimum to identify the reg plate.
Again these will cost more than basic systems.

Tapo cameras can record continuously to an internal SD card if you get the powered ones and footage can be retrieved via their app (which also provides monitoring when away from home). There is no subscription for that or streaming to a NAS (Synology will charge for more than 2 cameras as above), or Tapo can add cloud storage on subscription.
You can add their video doorbells, temperature sensors, smart plugs etc to that eco system with only the cost of purchasing the devices.

I have been told the ReoLink work well with Home Assistant, a NAS and HomeKit - not researched them myself but plan to.
Seconded for Reolink.Simplest option is POE with a 256Gb card in, next would be a Reolink Home Hub with either POE or Wireless. Which ever, the best no cost "software" is their web portal, but that's too easy and so :
I am currently putting adding my cameras into Home Assistant, using a QNAP NAS as a storage device and Frigate [Blue Iris alternative] as the controller. No Homekit, Google s

Synology NAS does many things, including recording CCTV footage. It has motion detection so only saves periods when something is happening, rather than filling up the HD with nothing. You get 2 licences free with the NAS, or can buy more (from memory £50 a go, maybe only £25, I forget?), or if you buy their camera's then no licences needed. You can set up an account with someone like CCTV Direct and buy decent/professional cameras from there. Get a POE switch for single wire connection.
It's possible to back up the NAS to the cloud, Synology offer that as a service, or you can set the NAS to sync to any cloud provider, but that feels overkill. Your NAS should be duplicating the files anyway in case one disk fails.

To offer a slightly different option, I use a Swann DVR8-4580V. It has wired analogue cameras (supports up to 8) and the DVR unit has a 1TB HDD inside so it records locally. Has motion sensing to start recording and lets you mask each view so you can exclude parts of the captured space from motion detection. The Swann app is not bad, crucially it lets you view live and recorded footage, and even lets you download clips to your phone. The nicest part is, no subscription and it'll still record even if your internet or network is down (or your chosen cloud provider's internet is down).
