Hi

Posting on behalf of my partner, she had her Hyundai i20 2010 MOT'd last week, there was an existing rattling type noise when turning right from the N/S front and more noticeable on acceleration, i did advise her to ask the MOT station to check the wheel bearings, which i pressume they should of anyway?..however the car passed and yesterday while she was thankfully only driving local instead of motorway the N/S front wheel has collapsed, she hit a parked car but only damaged the mirrors on both cars as she was pulled towards the curb side due to the failure.

I am no mechanic but can do some work myself as i own a 1982 TVR Wedge, however the steering and suspension set up is a lot different so would like to know, is this as i think a wheel bearing failure? and if so is the wheel bearing a hub-kit? or a pressed in bearing? the tie rod looked more bent backwards than in most pictures that i have looked at....so can anyone advise on repair and parts please, is it doable at the roadside also...many thanks

Cheers

Mark. smile

Looks more like steering linkage than wheel bearing potentially from your pictures. Will be obvious what's up with it if you are able to jack it up and take the wheel off.

Thanks...i will go and get my 40 year old classic TVR out...get the trolley jack out and whip the wheel off, i found out earlier that apparently someone bent the tie rod back to get her out of trouble!...not good bending metal back to shape unless you do it properly, may have been a "Get you home" fix but has been left...tut tut...

So i can get a clearer pic in my mind...is this what is bent too much backwards and would it of happened out of the blue like that?...thats what made me think its the wheel bearing ...

Would it be just a matter of replacing the tie rod outer ?
