Need something with a massive (boot) opening!
Discussion
As some on here will know, my wife Jo is a wheelchair user and is looking at getting a new power chair that although will fold down, it'll be easier for her if a hoist can lift the chair without folding straight into the boot (currently we have a C Class daily with a hoist in the back but she needs to bend down and fold her chair down before it'll go in - not easy when she's trying to steady herself by holding onto the car etc).
So I've been looking at potential new daily options as the new chair at ~78cm high I don't think will go through the boot opening (thinking the hoist will need some space as well).
Must haves:
- automatic (it'll be having hand controls fitted)
- boot depth of ~1.1m
- boot height of +80cm, probably more
As far as options go, totally open to most things for a max of £15k. It'll just be a daily so doesn't need to be too flash but then another part of me is saying "do something silly" (see LR options on the list!). So far I've quickly looked at:
- VW Touran (I like VWs and the Touran seems to tick loads of boxes, all wrapped up in a very boring but (for an MPV) stylish'ish way
- Land Rover of some description. L322s I love and the newer ones of which there seem to be plenty but they'll die and cost me thousands of pounds won't they? But when they work they'll be the best car ever? What about newer stuff like the Disco Sports?
- Similar to above, Jag F-Pace? Read a few horror stories about engines eating themselves. File away with it being a stupid idea with the LR stuff?
- BMW X5. I really like these and I think it'd tick all the boxes.
- BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer - see the Touran option. Boring but sort of half decent looking MPV.
Estates all seem to be out of the equation due to the boot height opening otherwise I'd be straight to an E Class or Superb.
Final totally bonkers option. I also own a highly modified VW Transporter so love the practicality of a van but don't need something Transporter sized as another daily. So get a VW Caddy + mk5 GTI engine and DSG box + fit Touran seats etc which i think I could do for £15 quite comfortably...

I would stick with something Touran ish for the slightly lower rear, maybe thrown a Ford Galaxy or S Max into the mix.
I quite like the S Max as its one of the nicer looking ones in its sporty format, below is just an example as i think the automatics are not that great reliability wise from what i have read.
