But maybe McLaren now have the better DNA ??
I'm sure this can be debated to the end of time, but I wouldn't buy a current Ferrari ... too big, too heavy, too complicated ... too "in your face" ... the triumph of a brand over top flight engineering ??
McLaren can take the fight to Porsche in this sector of the market, Ferrari are somewhere else IMHO ...
(this is a McLaren forum so please be understanding ....

I think realistically speaking the only new car from either brand I would maybe consider ordering new is a V12 Ferrari - mainly for the engine, but even for those I think I'd rather have a car out of the back catalog (I can't afford to order a new one, so this is hypothetical anyway). I would like a 675 / 688, 296 GTS or 600 LT / 620 R though (I guess the 296 is still just about a current model) for different reasons. I agree though that I suspect purely from a driving dynamics perspective I would favour a modern McLaren / view them as a purer proposition over a modern Ferrari. Ferrari for me was always (and still is) largely about the engines (be that V8 or V12) and I just find the non-turbo engines a lot more exciting (F50 over F40 all day long etc.). I have great respect for McLaren, but see them slightly different - I would buy one of those for the dynamics and the weight, but the engines leave me cold.
Interesting times ahead as the traits that are important to me / a lot of car guys might well become less and less achievable in modern cars (and I hope for them, that for other buyer groups are not important as otherwise it might be a pretty bleak future for these types of manufacturers).
