Which classic do you suddenly need?
Discussion
Whilst browsing the web I’ve come across a car that I suddenly need (despite having too many cars already).
You know the feeling - you stumble across an ad and immediately think “I need that, I can afford it, how can I get it?”.
Of course, it rarely works out, and in this case it won’t (it is 17 hours away and I’ve nowhere to keep it) but you can always plot and scheme until someone else buys it…and you stumble across something else.
I’m keeping an eye out for a P5B or P6B, so for me, today, it is this:

They're very rare here, called the Estoura version. Only 200 ish built and under 50 left. 3500 S versions, a handful made:

Unless it was a home-made job, that, with the V8 engine must be especially rare in Australia!

A skiing injury 6 years ago left me with damage to my right knee. I sold a Triumph GT6 because the short doors made entry and exit painful. The Lancia Fulvia Coupé that replaced it is LHD, which makes it much easier. As I have 2 sons, though, it means we can't all go out together.
Hence the car I need is a Talbot Matra Murena with its 3 abreast seating and LHD only. When I bought the Lancia there was only a 1.6 available and I'd want the 2.2, but one day...

There I was thinking that the Estoura was named after an idyllic Greek island or some medieval town in Spain.
Disappointed. Panelcraft derived the name from a combination of estate and toura (sic).
Oh dear.
It might have been HR Owen, they sold them.Disappointed. Panelcraft derived the name from a combination of estate and toura (sic).

Panelcraft did the conversion, Crayford did the trimming. HR Owen sold them.

Some cars are so rare that you have to buy them when they become available. I imagine a 2.2 Matra Murena falls into that category. Great cars - it's over 20 years ago since I had mine.A skiing injury 6 years ago left me with damage to my right knee. I sold a Triumph GT6 because the short doors made entry and exit painful. I assume specific parts are like rocking horse poo in the UK, which would make the prospect of owning (possibly the only) one in Aus a challenge. The ad states the rear window is plastic - I assume it was glass but got broken. Unobtainable?
Apart from that, I guess other bits are as available as a normal P6 (they were assembled in NZ and sold here so some parts are available locally).
Great car for a daily by the way.

I do still catch myself idly browsing classics, but know that if I had the money, I still don’t have the room…

There is a P6 parts supplier that says he has rear screens, I dunno if he really does. The ad states the rear window is plastic - I assume it was glass but got broken. Unobtainable?

The estate conversion doesn't make driving a 55 year old car everyday any worse, its just falling apart all over.
But, the P6 (its my 4th) is the best riding car I've had and I've had 4 generations of Jaguar XJ and a Silver Shadow, if you hold a compliant ride above all else, a P6 is the car to have.

Though if you’d seen this back in April, I could’ve stopped by on one of my two Brisbane trips
However, you could fly up and use Sydney as a stop on the way back with your new jalopy - get NRMA Premium Cover

Good to hear - I love a soft suspension. My 420 is great as were the Citroen CXes I owned. Twenty or so years ago I had a ride in a friends late P6B but I do not recall the experience as especially comfortable. Do all P6 have the same suspension settings (knowing that the V8 is a lightweight engine)?
