Hi,
If you get time - would you mind answering the following two questions - doing a study into how people percieve classes etc.
1)
When you meet someone who is doing a non-office maintainance job, like a dustbin man or a cleaner etc, do you consider them -
a) Above you
b) Below you
c) An equal
d) Don't even think about it
2)
When you meet someone who is a millionaire and who has great social standing within their own industries, do you consider them -
a) Above you
b) Below you
c) An equal
d) Dont even think about it
Many thanks

I was thinking the same thing, then again I occaisionally have a chat with one friendly street sweeper who I swee on the way to work sometimes, I consider him an equal or at least dont even think about it. He seems to more or less enjoy what he is doing, or at least makes the most of what he's got. But some of the others just give you such dirty looks because they probably hate their job, themselves for not having a better job and you for probably having a better job than them (even though I probably earn about the same wage).
I think its more to do with how people carry and present themselves more than anything. Some office slave in a suit commands more respect than a Builder or Plumber in dirty work clothes, but the Builder or Plumber is probably earning quite a bit more money than the suit.
Exactly. If you were chatting to a binman in a suit would you know any different?
And just meeting one in the street they are just a person. Thats all I see people as.
BUT. The only ones I feel 'above' are the drugged up, drunk idiots that seem to live around major towns.

Fair comment - thing is they are achiving contempt via their own actions as opposed to doing what they know how to do / could do so thats fair enough. I think the same way on that.

Good idea but it's much more complex than that. I may be more educated than the man who collects my rubbish but I respect him and he's the most cheerful bloke I know. He doesn't hate me for owning a Jaguar, as some people might, in the naive illusion that I earn more than they do. Everybody has a part to play.

I'm working blue collar at the moment. It wasn't always and won't be forever.
My conclusion.......there are more thickos in blue but the same proportion of diamonds.
One thing a millionaire can't do - spend their last pound on you. Now that's generosity.
However a millionaire might lend you their flash wheels.
